The **Major Richard Star Act** is critical legislation that aims to rectify an injustice faced by our combat-injured veterans. **Why This Matters:** - **Unfair Offsets:** Currently, over 50,000 medically retired veterans with combat-related disabilities are not receiving their full military retirement pay because it's offset by their VA disability compensation. They've earned both, yet they're forced to choose. - **Moral Obligation:** These veterans signed a blank check to our country, some with their lives. It's our duty to ensure they receive the full benefits they've earned, especially when injuries from service cut their careers short. **The Major Richard Star Act** would change this by: - Allowing these veterans to receive their complete DoD retirement and VA disability benefits concurrently, without one reducing the other. - Honoring the legacy of Major Richard Star, a decorated veteran who faced this very issue before his passing. **Take Action Now:** - **Contact Your Lawmakers:** Reach out to your Senators and Representatives. Demand they support H.R. 1282/S. 344. This bill has overwhelming bipartisan support but needs a push to get over the finish line. - **Spread the Word:** Share this post, talk to your networks, and educate others on why this act is crucial. Every voice counts! - **Join the Advocacy:** Organizations like MOAA, VFW, and DAV are fighting for this. Get involved, sign petitions, or attend advocacy events.
