The 3D learning experience is thinking an idea I came up with is cool and spent hours implementing it to find out that it only works for a very specific situation aka it’s useless. HAHA Basically I rigged the collar with their own bones so they don’t deform weirdly... with the arm/shoulder movement then realise the sleeve clips into the collar on Z rotation. Decided to try applying the twist bone logic of bone constraints (copy rotation) and was like wow, it kinda works to move the collar away when the arm rotates to the front! But reality is that it just looks nice on T-pose and the “effect” is weird when the arms are posed downwards (which would be the default state of the model in its intended use)… And also the sleeve will still clip into the collar at a more extreme rotation anyway so I guess it was a fruitless effort in the end hahaha It did help me get more comfortable with the idea of applying bone constraints for other uses tho so that’s a plus! ദ്ദി(•⥿•)ว✨ In the end I’ll probably have colliders on the sleeve to prevent clipping with the collar as much as possible but I think a big degree of clipping is still inevitable considering the range of movement when the model is used for 3D vtubing 🤔show more

How to Create Rotation With the Back Leg How you want to actually create rotation with the back leg. For me and higher level guys, I don’t even like to think about rotation. If you feel your hips rotating, it’s probably too slow. This is such a violent, explosive movement that happens in milliseconds. You shouldn’t even be able to feel it. That’s why I think about it as a weight shift. When you’re putting force into the ground, into that X direction, most of your weight is on the back leg. Then once you create that impulse and it propels you forward, all you need to think about is getting to the front leg. That force naturally rotates the hips into foot plant. For a lot of higher level guys, this helps a lot. They don’t have to think about rotating the hips. Because that can actually mess things up. Instead, it’s just force into the ground and get to the front leg. The pelvis will rotate on its own.

This is a (kind of messy) example of how I do it! Basically you make a copy of the piece (in this case the sleeve) and then put it in the shirt deformer. Then pose the model and adjust the glue as needed! I use a shortcut to hide the mesh/glue display to paint glue easier~

When I am at the gym and I see somebody’s water bottle there or a towel or something. I know they just stepped away for a moment and that the machine is occupied. Out of respect I won’t move it out of the way only for them to come back and have to explain themselves anyways. This young lady on the machine left her water bottle on it because she stepped away for a moment to use the restroom only for somebody else to come by and try to use it in her place. Would you have understood the etiquette or is it just a free for all? When I first started working out I was unfamiliar with the gym etiquette. Some people just got done with a hard set and need to stand up and walk for a few moneys or get a drink of water and they use it as their rest period so that they can go back at it. Interrupting that process is the same thing as booting them off the machine mid workout. It’s rude and uncalled for but why does it keep happening? I think what it is, is that some people are very judgmental, they see others and think that they are more serious about working out than the other person so that to them it means they are entitled to use it first because their workouts are more important. I used to let them do that to me but no more. I treat it as first come first serve, if they don’t want to wait then maybe they need to avoid the gym during peak hours. This is the very reason I work out in the middle of the night most of the time. I rather not be bothered and if I need to take my time I can, most of the time nobody else is even there anyways when I go.

Bruiser has forgiven me!! I was able to get the collar off, take off the nametag that jingled, and put the collar back on. He has decided that petting is worth the hassle. Now he has an AirTag on him so I can find him if the fireworks this week have him bolting somewhere. Don’t worry. It’s a breakaway collar and it’s on loosely. I can easily get three fingers under it. I’d rather lose the collar than have it get caught on something and hurt him.

Yeah, maybe the format was a set back in the past, but at the same time there’s a lot of positives to it as well. And one of the things that a lot of players kept mentioning is you don’t have a wave weather difference, where you can simply get unlucky and you’re out of contention for that tournament. It’s part of the game, I get it, but it’s something you don’t have to deal with anymore. So that part is a very nice aspect. The team is what really made it for me. Being able to be part of a team, represent a team, play for my teammates, with my teammates and against my teammates, is something that to me that has always been very, very special. When you get a victory to share, it’s always better to have a team to share it with. So it’s what was the most attractive part and when we started discussions it gets to a point where even though I’m ambitious, I’m not greedy. So there’s a give and take and the format is something that I can easily overlook, and I’m pretty sure I can learn to enjoy it, I’ll just have to get used to it, but I’m pretty sure I’ll learn to enjoy it. To be honest, the more I started thinking about it, the more I started thinking about my college days that were 3 day tournaments, 54 holes, and everybody warmed up together for the most part. I've built a setup in Geometry Nodes to get data from bones, so now I can do things like make Normals from them, and I'm experimenting with much more. The Normal here is basically a cylinder around each bone. So it doesn't work that great around the shoulders, but its great on the arms and legs. Its the same idea as when you do radial/sphere Normals for a face or hair, but for the whole body.

my new song “BREAKDOWN.” is out on the 21st of June!!! 🖤🖤🖤 I wrote this poem because it’s been the hardest year for my mental health. In my life I’ve always never felt good enough, it’s just the thing that’s eaten me up. For as long as I can remember i have felt constantly afraid of how quickly my head can turn dark. It’s always been so hard to fight the darkness that i inevitably have. A lot of people will say it’s a phase and it will go away. But it doesn’t and the reality of the situation is I have to find strategies to deal with it. To put it plainly the things I don’t like about myself will probably never change, people tell me one day I’ll come-to terms with them one day but I want that day to be FUCKING NOW. This song is a message to myself to try and exist alongside my insecurities and my darkness by grounding myself and remembering what is real in life and the world is so much bigger than me. Try and get out of your head and notice the world around you, notice the things and people around you. Connect with them, the chances are they probably feel the same. Don’t let the bullshit inside your head consume you. It just wastes precious time. Remember what is real. Help people, be kind, help the world, help yourself. If you think you can’t do it, you can. You can get through this, trust me. Use this poem in a mornin to get u out of bed, use it when youre about to back out of something last minute, use it when you’re at your darkest. It’s got a little bit of light in it. Don’t forget to put your feet in the grass … Mind

However, I think if Bitcoin had been anonymous truly from the start, like a Zcash or a Monero, it would have had such antagonism from the state. I don’t know that the state could have snuffed it out, but they would have tried much harder. And I think it’s actually good, from the Trojan horse metaphor perspective, that it was traceable enough that the traditional institutions could tolerate it. They’ve never liked it, but they could at least tolerate it because there is some traceability. And that has allowed Bitcoin to grow. And I think in its shadow, that other crypto assets are actually anonymous is very healthy. 🖨️ It took over a year and lots of help from Claude Code but I have now been able to create a real dot matrix printer on the web that prints from Windows 3.11 in your browser: Here's the test page: I couldn't get the LPT1 port to work but COM2 did work (the dial up model already uses COM1), the JS receives the COM2 serial data (just raw print data) and then prints it Next is to make the dot matrix printer better looking (kinda 3d like on pieter dot com) and have the paper also flowing in 3d out of the printer and integrate it on the page My idea was that it might work because we also capture the COM1 data (from the dial up modem) and send it to a Websocket as a dial up connection, so we should be able to capture the COM2 traffic too but I didn't know how, but now I do IT WORKS!! 😊

Yay, i did it, i even did one for the shoulder to somewhat adjust when the arm is moving up and down, the only downside is that you can't or i don't know how to, add the elbow joint to control rotation, but i consider this a win.

Cameron Young is playing with a golf ball that would allegedly be compliant with the new roll back rules that will come into effect in a few years time. He was asked about it ahead of the PGA Championship and he says every player in the game is sacrificing distance for control, and he put it in play at the Wyndham last year which he won. “I think I put it in play the same reason that everybody else plays the ball that they play. I hit it during a ball test, one of the Titleist facilities probably close to two years ago and didn't know anything about it and just kind of say, hey, what's that one? Because I liked the flight. “Then as things progressed, I was able to test it last year at Wyndham, able to put that in play, and it's been there since. “Obviously there is no conforming list. I wasn't aware that it would have -- I suppose I read something that said it passed that test, but I wasn't aware of that until very recently. “So at no point was that a consideration. It was just really me trying to optimize my golf, and it's the ball that seems to work the best for me.” He then was asked whether he lost distance with it compared to other balls he’s tested: “Not particularly. I don't think any of us are out really here playing the ball that goes the farthest. I think you'd struggle to find a single person that's doing that. We're all sacrificing a certain amount of things that we feel are worth it, control with irons, control with wedges. For me, that's the biggest thing is being able to control spin, and this is the ball that does the best for me.” Finally he can as asked whether this ball goes further than the one he was using: “No, I hit very similar, yeah. It's much more -- the driver is kind of the easiest thing to deal with, I feel like. For me to get it where it needed to be, I had to just add a little bit of spin, and it kind of comes out at a perfectly playable range. “For me, the biggest thing, like I said, is the irons. This ball is easier to control with the irons. Fred Astaire explains how the outfit of the dancing partner can affect the performance by citing the example of this dance scene [Cheek to Cheek] in 'Top Hat' (1935): "The dancing dresses of my partners have, for years, been a working problem, and in 'Top Hat' I dare say it reached its dizzy peak. I seldom discuss the style of a dress but I am concerned with how it will dance, or rather, react to the dance. Therefore, my partners are usually willing to let me help in choosing them. Girls love to wear slacks when learning or rehearsing a dance. They are comfortable and convenient and allow complete freedom of movement. Ginger Rogers always wore them for rehearsal. In act, Hermes and I were so used to seeing Ginger on the rehearsal stage in slacks that one day when she showed up in a dress we didn’t know who she was. What I’m getting at is that when putting on a dance, experimenting over and over with various steps, the slacks work perfectly, but when we finally have to get ready to shoot, it is necessary to try everything with a dress, the actual dress if possible, to see how things will go. When I saw the mask "Tribes of the Calf" from Kanbas I knew I had to make it into reality. The jewelry and gold really made it stand out for me. Since Sam Spratt's The Masquerade was revealed, I have been spending time sculpting and dissecting the mask to recreate it in 3D as faithfully as possible. I delved into the creation of this mask for many reasons. I love a good challenge and this mask surely was one for me. Creating something in 3D from a 2D image is not easy, and especially when the source has generative nature, some stuff is hard to interpret, but I tried my best to make sure the visual integrity of the mask is as close to the original as possible. Splitting the whole mask into parts, filling the missing pieces so I can build the textures was quite a lot of work. I tried to present the mask in my own style with a slightly different colorway to adapt to the mask itself. Please enjoy this short animation, and turn on sound🔊 This piece is my statement that I am here to stay. That I have a voice that often feels being lost in the void. That I have been creating and posting digital art for over 20 years now and will continue until I'm gone. I have a story to tell and I want to be heard. The space we have here is small, and is shrinking day by day. It doesn't have to be like that. We need to support each other and push ourselves and people here, otherwise we are all doomed. As Kanbas has put in their observation of the mask: "Inspirational. Emotional. Natural." This is what our space can be, and this is me making a statement with this homage. I've always secretly wanted a PDP-11. When I was a little kid, they were state-of-the-art. When I was in college, they were a staple of our CS program. I rarely got to touch one and never expected to own one. I found it on eBay for sale a couple of months ago, with proceeds going to charity. So I bid (yay, and won it. The price included free national crating and shipping, so I felt slightly cheated that it was only coming from Oregon! A cheerful fellow dropped it off from his liftgate truck, wheeling it and the pallet on which it sat into my garage before leaving. According to the shipping manifest, it weighed 840 lbs. I have a 2-ton portable shop crane (engine hoist), but wasn't sure if it would go high enough to lift the PDP or if you were even supposed to grab a PDP by its chassis and lift it. Nonetheless, the lift had the height, but the legs weren't wide enough to clear the wood shipping pallet, so I couldn't get the lift over the PDP. We set up the lift on top of the palette, then blocked it up so we could lift the PDP and slowly cut the pallet away with a Sawzall. Which is what I did. It seemed super-sketch but was never dangerous. I'm much too good-looking to be killed by a 1970s minicomputer. I then did something that earned me the nickname "YOLO" on the PDP-11 groups: I just plugged it in and turned it on to see what confronted me. The machine emitted a scary roar, like a powerful fan rubbing on the chassis or maybe an arc. The power dipped out every time it made the sad sound. It wasn't happy. It turns out there's a big electrical contactor in the power block, which was cycling intermittently. A helpful forum member told me what capacity was most likely responsible, and he was right! Five cents and some solder later, it powered up! I pulled a VT220 over and connected it, which brought me to a boot prompt! But any attempt to boot from any device (I had 2 fixed drives and a removable as part of the system) just locked things up. Coming out of the back of the machine was a giant 100-pin ribbon cable that daisy chained from one drive to the next. It ended in a unibus card on the end of an 8' extension cable. Clearly intended to plug into another cabinet, which I didn't have. Long story short, the bus wasn't terminated because the termiantor was in the other stack. So I located one on eBay and waited patiently for it to arrive, spending most days on the front steps waiting for the UPS truck in anticipation. In the meantime I redid all of the filtration in the system, which is a lot of it! When the terminator finally did arrive, I installed it and the machine still wouldn't boot. None of the drives seems readable at this point, but at least it was trying. The good news is that I can load old DEC diagnostic packages over the serial port, and it passes all CPU, logic, and disk controller tests. So beyond the physical media (which I can emulate in the worst case) it's up and running, if not doing a lot yet! PS: I bought the M3 new in '03, and it has 12K miles on it now...

Next up, letter U: “U Don’t Know” #JayZ30 #JayZ Just Blaze: “I remember when I started the first version of ‘U Don't Know’ ... I just knew it had the potential to be something explosive. When Jay first did his rhyme, I’m like, ‘Alright, this is cool.’ But what really set that record off, for me at least, was when I added the [mimics the piano keys] at the very beginning. He does ‘turn my music high’ … it was just the perfect setup to a great record.” The producer added: “...If you notice, there's a start and stop with his [Jay-Z] rhymes, and the reason that is, is because he did the first verse and then he left it there. ...Every day he would come in to refine and work on a new idea. That was like his gym music, so he would listen, add another 8-to-16 bars, and then pull up the next record. ...That was basically the record [‘U Don't Know’] that would get him hype to record every day, which is why it goes on for as long as it does ‘cause he’s thinking of more rhymes...”

007/100 Buttons. This button was way more complex than I first thought. I love the page transition on the Truus site that Dennis Snellenberg and Jordan Gilroy worked on. So I wanted to use that drawing SVG Path idea somehow and fit it into a button. In best case with a mask effect. The idea was to have an SVG path in the background that fills the button. At the same time, this path should also be used as a mask to reveal the differently colored text. The SVG should also be replaceable and work with other SVGs. For the path animation, I can use the DrawSVGPlugin from GSAP. Sounds like a solid plan. I built the button so far, and it worked great in Chrome and Firefox. In Safari, nope. I used an SVG mask that I referenced through CSS. But Safari can’t handle that properly when the path inside the mask is animated, so the animation lags. There was no simple solution for that. At least I didn’t find something. So I had to rebuild the button in another way. What I found was that the SVG mask animation works in Safari when the mask is placed on the desired element inside the SVG. That’s where foreignObject comes in, it allows you to use normal HTML elements inside an SVG. Using that, I rebuilt the hover text inside the SVG. I then referenced the mask on the foreignObject with a bit of JavaScript. And it worked! The button’s structure looks more complicated than I wanted it to be, but that happens quite often when you need to make something work across different browsers 😃 Crafting 100 Buttons with Osmo ⏳ Total time: 96h

Carol Reed on the ending of "Third Man" (1949): "You must always do as you like, gambling on the possibility that what you like is also commercial. I used to be very much criticized for ending my films unhappily. At one time, it was thought that every picture must end with an embrace so that the audience could go out happy, but I don’t think that’s what it did. A picture should end as it has to. I don’t think anything in life ends “right.” The ending of The Fallen Idol (1948) is only partly happy. After all, the boy is now finished with the butler, although he used to adore him. In 'The Third Man' (1949), Graham Greene wanted Joseph Cotten to overtake Alida Valli in that car; then the film would finish with the couple walking down the road. I insisted that she pass him by. David Selznick had some money in the film (I think it took care of Cotten and Orson Welles’s valet). I must say he was very nice and appreciative about the picture as soon as he saw it, but he said, “Jesus, couldn’t we make a shot where the girl gets together with the fella?” “It was in the original script,” I said, “But we chucked it out. I’m not sure if it was a good idea.” But I mean, the whole point with the Valli character in that film is that she’d experienced a fatal love — and then along comes this silly American!"
