This is first time I heard Alipay is described as Chinese equivalent of Apple Pay. Lol. People have reported that Alipay is working 50/50 but no Wechat pay link up w foreign credit/atm cards yet

Alipay and wechat pay both worked for me 100% As for Apple Pay, of course China is more advanced (as I said) but I have to frame things in a way that Americans can understand. I can’t be like “and you’re gonna love zhifubao!”

I believe your observations are accurate. However, I disagree with your conclusion that China is improving. This is because what you see are merely superficial aspects. As a tourist, it's true that one might perceive more order and convenience on the surface, but the fundamental economic drivers of social development are indeed collapsing. The departure of manufacturing supply chains from China, the collapse of the private economy, rising unemployment rates, the downfall or ongoing collapse of industries such as real estate and education, censorship, and anti-Western indoctrination... these are not aspects one can directly experience through street-level tourism. Yet, I agree with taking a comprehensive view of China's state. Exaggerating the chaos and deterioration of China's current situation on Twitter is also biased.

Good insight, though I'd say the change you talk about is probably 10 years not 5. I agree that the culture change is probably the most amazing. Everything else can be solved with money, but for that money often isn't enough. Of course, it could very well be that people are simple wealthier today which makes them more civilized. Poverty makes people care less.
