Osei Kwame Despite didn’t become a billionaire by running a charity; he did it by building a massive conglomerate that employs thousands of Ghanaians and pays millions in taxes. It is not the job of private citizens to fix the state's systemic issues, that is why we elect a government. Expecting a businessman to solve national structural failures instead of enjoying his hard-earned money is peak entitlement.

Social responsibility is not the same as governmental obligation. The billionaires could be obligated through tax breaks linked to the corporate responsibility of their companies, but there's nothing beyond that, unfortunately. The building of roads, hospitals, police stations, etc., is not the responsibility of those to whom we don’t pay taxes. We must impress upon the state to do more..
