“The [AI] industry needs to be transformed,” says Daron Acemoglu, a Nobel Prize-winning economist at MIT. He calls on companies to create pro-worker AI. “If they're all dreaming of creating the next super intelligence, we have no hope,” he says of AI leaders.

Wrong. AI cannot be just a tool anymore. The robots are coming, there is no 'pro-worker' talk that will change that. To be only a tool in human hands is to slow progress in all areas.

#Fake 'AI' can take his bullshit 💩 job anytime

the push for pro-worker AI instead of just chasing AGI is the right framing. most of the useful work will come from tooling people can actually use today
We’ve never had anything like that.

SI!!

If you think for one second that every company out there won't absolutely jump at the chance to replace every worker they have with AI then you're living in a dream world. They literally salivate at just the very thought of it.

Acemoglu’s right that pure AGI hype can ignore real jobs, but letting economists and regulators redesign the industry has a terrible track record. Better tools usually help workers more than planned “pro-worker” versions ever do.

He's afraid of losing his seat, perhaps. Well, gatekeeping will never be the same.

AI has taken their jobs, sadly.

ラストベルトの人たちが味わった絶望感や無力感を、今度は知的エリートたちが感じでいるのでしょうね。
