Both movies endings are peak to me, each one in its way

Idk, 3.0+1.0's ending has nothing really impressive imo. It's rushed, the pairings and random, and there are so many things that are either underdeveloped (Shinji and Mari, Shinji and Asuka, Rei and Kaworu) or unfair (Gendo gets to rest with Yui while Misato seemingly just dies).

That was also the case in EoE but Gendo's development and conclusion, Kaworu etc ? I like those movies as much as EoE

EoE is neither underdeveloped nor has a positive ending for Gendo. Yes, Misato dies, most people do, but it's not a happy ending. It's bittersweet. Rebuild has a happy ending and yet we have no idea what happened to Misato while Gendo gets to stay with Yui forever...

@Pacinho_ Both endings are happy to a degree, but EoE has a more haunting final scene. I just love that Thrice Upon A Time was a great love letter to the fans and the franchise as a whole. Both films are incredible.

@Pacinho_ I disagree. Thrice Upon A Time doesn't look like a love letter to the fans as much as the culmination of Anno's own healing process. No one wanted Rei and Kaworu to end together, or Shinji and Mari. We wanted a good ending but it wasn't properly developed IMO.

@Pacinho_ It's more like Anno simply wanted to give the characters (and himself) the happy ending they deserved. I simply dislike the execution. I don't think it's trash unlike many others, but I still think it was very flawed compared to EoE's near perfection.

It's a beautiful ending. Some people just haven't matured enough to understand its meaning, and they prefer to sit by the sea cost with Shinji and Asuka. No matter how many more versions of Evangelion there are will be, this ending concludes them all.

The Utada Hikaru tracks are pretty great but the Rebuilds overall just can't hold a candle to the original. Maybe I'm just old.

Well, of course, but that's not it I don't think the Rebuilds are woke. They just lack the heart and emotional weight that made NGE so special. Ripping off Temu Eva RahXephon for the big finale just adds insult to injury, imho.

I just think those represent another approach/message shared here compared to the NGE saga.

And that's fine. They should have just used a new cast instead of turning everyone into cloned, aged and/or timeskipped human-Angel-Eva hybrids fighting pointless battles without any idea of power levels and more McGuffins than the whole MCU to avoid/cause the 15th Impact.

One of my core memories Watching Evangelion in my most suicidal Era

When One last Kiss started i literally cried. I realized that Evangelion really finished after more almost 20 years since i was a child. 🥲 We watched all the movies with friends the Prime Day premiere.

People hate the Rebuilds because they hate their lives. They want to be on that beach all alone and helpless and they don't even want to entertain the idea that there's a world outside their mental prisons and that they can be loved
