Ottawa Police failed to act at the time of the incident or in response to reports later filed about the assault. A year later, Deana was arrested on serious charges related to alleged protest activity, including assault with a weapon involving a noise device against a sitting politician. While out on bail, Deana was re-arrested for breaching her conditions and disturbing the peace, this time using a squeaky toy as a substitute for the electronic whistle. Antifa-aligned activist Deana Sherif travelled from Ottawa to Thornhill to protest outside a synagogue hosting an Israeli real estate event. She brought her nine-year-old into the pro-Israel counter protest, seemingly to try and agitate the crowd. The child was armed with an electronic whistle, which she directed at my videographer, counter protesters, and even a police officer. This is the same device that led to Deana being charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon; her trial is set for next month. Deana often downplays the whistle, saying it is a crossing guard’s tool—as if crossing guards wield it directly in people’s ears for prolonged periods. At least one altercation occurred: an ailing senior woman alleged that Deana verbally abused her without cause, while Deana claimed she was the victim of assault and hate. In a recent assault case where Deana was the complainant, my client was found not guilty on self-defence grounds. Note that my client, Tinfoil Hat Guy, who was later accused of assaulting Deana when he moved her away from protesters she was aggressively trying to confront, had no involvement in this initial altercation. Constable Pinizzotta was shot to death earlier this week while executing a warrant related to an investigation into shootings at the US Consulate and local synagogues.
