I was trying to get a car loan and ran into this They said I needed a history of making payments I pointed to my rent telephone and electric bill all paid on time They said it did not count I asked what if I did not pay them? That would count against me It is a crazy system

Our credit score system is a sucker score. It basically measures how likely they are to make money from you.

He’s absolutely right. We have zero debt - house is paid off, cars are paid off, credit cards paid in full every month. We decided to buy a lake house - financing only half the appraised value, and you wouldn’t BELIEVE the hoops they are making us jump through. Before our house was paid off, we both had literally perfect credit. Now, it’s below 800, because…reasons… It’s all stupid!

Get a credit card but use it like a debit card, keeping your bank balance minus card balance well into the positive. Pay it off every month to avoid paying interest. This will let you get perfect credit without going into any real debt.

So true, it was exactly what I learnt in 2013. French , I was living in California for 2 years. I was trying to move from my flat to a house. I was constantly rejected as I did not have credit score… I had no debt and 300k in cash or stock.

Try paying off a debt. Your credit score goes DOWN. Why? Because you’re not carrying debt anymore. Make it make sense

It's worse than ridiculous, it's a scam. That whole time someone is paying off debt, they are giving the credit industry free money. With that perspective, it's easy to see why banking institutions hate people who don't have debt.

I ran into this the last time I wanted to buy a car. Even worse I had borrowed from the same bank before and paid them back. My 80 year old mother got a credit card at 18 and paid it off every month since. She could buy a house on her Amex now.

This is a comedy skit. Banks are not involved in rentals and have no control over credit scores. Having a bank account gets you into the system. A debit card would provide tracking data.

You don't go to a bank to rent an apartment. This is like going to a restaurant to buy a car.
