In "The Frighteners" (1996), the part of drill sergeant in the graveyard was written as a spoof of Lee Ermey's character in "Full Metal Jacket" (1987). Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh wrote it with an intention of casting a New Zealander for the role. Since they didn't find anyone worthy for the part, they finally ended up casting Ermey for the role.
