Today, I hosted the first meeting of a special panel on child safety online. For decades, we have made the real world safer for children and we must do the same in the digital world. The positive opportunities that technology offers cannot come at the cost of their safety, health or happiness. In Europe, tech platforms already have a responsibility to ensure the safety of users. But we must also do more to protect and empower our young people online. This is the aim of the special panel. We will work intensely with experts and stakeholders, including our youth, to forge a strong and realistic European approach to keep our children safe in the digital age. By the summer, the special panel will publish its recommendations for further action.

You put yourself at risk to save others, running towards danger on Bondi Beach and disarming a terrorist. On behalf of every Australian, I say thank you." The ZRP is requesting Dr. David Nhunzva to report to the CID Law and Order section to help with ongoing investigations. He is wanted for allegedly creating AI-generated videos meant to harm the image of the ZRP. Watch the three videos below. The police shared the following statement on their social media platforms: The ZRP reminds the public that the Cyber and Data Protection Act, Ch 12:07 criminalizes creating, distributing or publishing false or misleading information on digital platforms. This includes circulating deepfake videos, fabricated news, misleading claims, using digital platforms to humiliate, threaten or demean individuals or institutions and producing or sharing AI-generated content that misrepresents reality. The ZRP is investigating a social media personality known as Dr. David Nhunzva for allegedly creating AI-generated videos intended to damage the image of the ZRP. The ZRP will not tolerate the misuse of digital technologies to mislead the public, harm reputations or undermine trust in national institutions. It is therefore in the interest of Dr. David Nhunzva to report to CID Law and Order to assist in the on-going investigations.

The new trend of posting pictures and video clips in uniform on various social media platforms, directly contravenes National Instruction 5 of 2017. According to Section 19(10) of National Instruction 5 of 2017 on Media Communication in the South African Police Service, the following rules must be adhered to: No member may, on their own accord, represent the SAPS on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc., either on their own social media accounts or those belonging to the SAPS. No member may use a profile picture of themselves in uniform or display any police insignia, badges, or logos as their avatar on their private social media accounts. Only with the approval of the Head of Corporate Communication and Liaison may a social media profile be set up for or on behalf of the SAPS on any social network. Accordingly, no station, cluster, unit, or office of the SAPS is permitted to have a social media profile or account without approval. These regulations ensure that all members execute their duties professionally within the confines of the law. Any employee who transgresses in any form or manner will be subjected to the processes of the applicable Disciplinary Regulations. All SAPS members are required to subscribe to the SAPS Code of Conduct and Dress Code and adhere to them when performing their daily duties and interacting with the public. Your efficiency, professionalism, integrity, respect, and empathy are vital to service delivery and the SAPS’s reputation, which in turn influences the community's trust in their police service.
