The hammer has a will of its own and refuses to be moved by those it does not deem worthy. What it deems worthy changes depending on rendition. But that hammer itself isnt that heavy as seen when its left on normal objects. It is an immovable object to the unworthy. Not heavy

I never thought of the hammer getting heavier, my headcanon is that the hammer just gets "locked in place" if it's still or just continues the last motion whenever someone who's not worthy tries to lift it
