Pulling down the rope took longer than the engine started and took off 😬

our search and rescue aircraft had to be off the ground in 8 minutes from time of alert. we got it down to 5 minutes

Can someone explain to me why a bomber needs to have a “rapid scramble”?

The Louisiana State emblem says that’s Barksdale AFB. Only 2 B52 bases in the world. Minot ND being the other. My grandfather worked and flew on earlier versions being prop driven in WWII.

At least they could during the SAC years. That was a clown show.

Aircraft on the ground don't fare well in war. Even worse if you are packing heavy heat. You want it up and out as fast as possible. What most people never realize in this scenario, you aren't coming back. You scrambled because they were incoming. Likely nothing to return to.

“Unfortunately, before the B-52 Stratofortress crew can execute a rapid scramble launch of 85 secs from order to engines within minutes, an unmanned military equipment would have blown it into skitterings.” This isn’t theory. This is the brutal math of 2026 warfare. While those 8 engines are still spooling up… a single drone, loitering munition, or hypersonic strike has already turned America’s legendary bomber into burning wreckage on the tarmac. Minutes used to win wars. Now seconds decide everything. The B-52 is still majestic. Still powerful in the air. But on the ground? It’s a 70-year-old sitting duck against the new unmanned reality.

What’s the purpose of those ropes they pull out?

Can we please get some nose art on these planes?

I flew F-4's but a friend flew "Buff's". During Vietnam I hoped that I'd return to base safely each mission. My B-52 friend stationed in Turkey knew that if needed for a nuclear drop that he wasn't returning from his target. I liked my chances better....

I grew up I on Barksdale in the 80's, during the cold war, I remember the drills. Sirens would go off and you'd see everyone running to their cars and head out and 5 minutes later huge black clouds from the flightline and a stream of these taking off. Terrifying for a 10 yo.

Cool…Homestly thou what the hell is up with the rope thing they are pulling on attached to the flag. Seems a bit primitive 😎

Been doing it since the 1950s. 😃

My son's Boy Scout troop got to visit Lockheed in Ft. Worth and they had a Boeing B-52 there. We got to climb into that cockpit. It is tiny for the length of missions those men run. Respect for those aviators. Trivia: The wings have outrigger/training wheels to keep the tips from touching the runway when loaded with fuel.

40 sec drill up and away 💪✈️

Wondering if they still use shotgun shells to kick start the engines

For the cost of one B-52 Stratofortress you could buy 56,037 65” TVs from Walmart. B-52H Stratofortress (inflation-adjusted): $84,000,000 onn. 65” Class 4K UHD TV from Walmart: $1,499 A bomber designed in 1948, still flying in 2026. Your TV will be obsolete in 4 years.

Grandpa Buff headed to drop a payload in Russia's mom.

You have to get them off the ground quick if there's an incoming attack. They're better off in the air than sitting ducks down there.

I miss the sound and the smell, and yet I don't really miss the sound or the smell. Too many cold nights on the ramp at KISawyer.

Airlines take note.

Uh oh, we forgot to load the bombs?

Get those new engines and electronics upgrades on every remaining plane.

KLAXON KLAXON KLAXON!

Can someone explain, is this a wartime situation or just training.

Rapid scrambles are needed training to maintain proficiency. Now, if the USAF could pop their collective heads out of their asses and not permit waves of jamming-resistant drones to repeatedly fly over a major base, where B-52s are based, for a week, like happened in March ...

Modern-day minute men 🇺🇸

Needs a smog check

Beautiful plane!

MY IRISH CANDIAN GRANDFATHER FLEW IN LANCASTER BOMDERS IN 24 NIGHT RAIDS AY THE END OF WWII. TOOK PART IN THE BOMBING OF DRESDEN THE HISTORIC ANCIENT GERMAN CITY. HE CONSIDERED IT A WAR CRIME & CHURCHILL A WAR CRIMINAL. DURING OLIVER NORTH HEARINGS HE SAID THEY'RE ALL CRIMINALS

Wonderful for such a old aircraft 👏

Seen the unedited version of this video. A lot of running, but it took a very long time to get the aircraft moving. By the time it started to move, an ICBM would have made the base toast.

Wonder if the new RR engines will have a "cartridge start" ability.

Bogus clips. The first plane is #: 0058, the plane shown actually taking off is #: 0025!
