The Balatro prototype 2 weeks into development I shared this in a thread earlier but this version is pretty wacky. Jokers weren't even planned yet!

This is also before I learned how to do pixel art/shaders so none of these assets were made by me! All placeholder at this point

It already looked very interesting but it speaks well (IMO) of your refinement of the game's design that you simplified the conditionally enhanced cards

The conditionals were much better suited for Jokers, it was quick and easy to add all the complexity to the playing cards enhancements but took a long time to properly streamline it out

This makes me want a joker that offers you two card exchanges after each blind. The option to swap any base card for an equivalent, enhanced version. Thanks for sharing stuff like this. I love the whole video poker aesthetic and it’s cool to see that you had that in mind from the beginning

What’s really interesting to me is how strong the style already is!

Even though it'd be kind of a pain in the ass I do like the concept of the chips being your money. Simplifying the economy was a better idea because having better score would destroy the need for any econ joker.
