Some modern versions in the digital age: Google Search is a trade route. The App Store is a customs house. Amazon is distribution disguised as e-commerce.

Crypto repeats it in HD: Coinbase/Binance = liquidity ports. Order flow concentrates where trust + convenience live. Liquidity drives efficiency which drives trade routes.

And DeFi? Here’s the problem: Protocols are permissionless. But users don’t experience “permissionlessness.” Users experience defaults and create habits.

Over a long enough time horizon, does value accrue to a token… or to the distribution surface?

History is unkind: technology commoditizes. distribution compounds. In DeFi, the route isn’t a smart contract. Most of the time it’s an interface. Who owns the distribution sets the rules?
