BEFORE RESCUING A FISH: Set up a tank. Give a betta at least 5 gallons. Install a heater & filter. Use betta drops. Fill it with gravel, live plants, maybe some snails and allow it to “cycle”. Use test strips to ensure it’s safe. This can take weeks.

AFTER RESCUING A FISH: Float the betta’s cup in the tank for at least an hour. This will acclimate them to the temperate. Gradually exchange water between the cup and tank. This will acclimate them to the chemistry. Welcome home, Opi. 🐠

Opi has a sensory pore infection, likely by a fungus — probably the same thing causing his “cloudy eye”. We’ll treat with an antifungal. Pet stores don’t spend money on that care. He likely would have died in that cup. Don’t support the aquarium trade.

@TEOTWP Thank you. Absolutely agree with this action and would chip in to your legal fees if ever needed. This wasn’t a theft - it was a rescue.
