On this first day in office as Romanian foreign minister, I find it poignant to celebrate the UN International Day of Women in Diplomacy. I am looking forward to work with all my colleagues in the ministry at headquarters and abroad as well as with our international partners. I am thrilled many among them are women. Being a woman and a diplomat is not a special privilege, it is a reflection of the world. It is also an achievement for many women that bring their contribution and vision in a field that is both difficult and demanding. I am pleased to say that Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania 🇷🇴 is a champion in the field. At our embassies and consulates as well as at our headquarters hundreds of women diplomats are part of the team and this is also reflected at leadership level. Moved by their achievements and much looking forward to encourage women in diplomacy!

Not everyday that someone quotes Mao at a major business event in the West but I just did 😊 I was on a panel at the Web Summit in Lisbon to speak about China's 15th 5-year plan and I found this extraordinarily prescient Mao quote from a speech he made in 1955 ( "Our goal is to catch up with the United States, and moreover to surpass the United States. [...] Exactly how many decades it will take depends on everyone's efforts - at least fifty years, perhaps seventy-five years. Seventy-five years would be fifteen five-year plans. Only on the day we catch up with and surpass the United States will we be able to breathe a sigh of relief." Pretty extraordinary: Mao estimated in 1955 that it would take "fifteen five-year plans" for China to surpass the United States. And here we are.

“Women destroy everything they touch…Women are the only ones that kill the innocent. Even serial killers don’t kill kids. Ted Bundy lived with a child and did not kill him.” Is Pearl ok? Who is this woman’s mother? And why is she taking her mommy issues out on the world? I have such a heart for men and their issues, and I think they’re overlooked and undervalued in so many ways, but vast generalizations about how evil women are and straight up lies about how men never murder innocents isn’t helpful at all.
