Dawn of Disruption: Nationwide Fuel Protest Convoy Set to Paralyse Dublin Traffic in 'Peaceful but Massive Demonstration' Motorists across Ireland are being warned of significant delays in and around Dublin on Tuesday as thousands of hauliers, farmers, construction workers and support vehicles converge on the capital in a nationwide fuel-price protest. Organisers have released an updated convoy plan calling for a coordinated, peaceful demonstration starting at dawn, of which details at the end of this report. The running order will place recovery trucks at the front, followed by hauliers, buses, farmers, construction vehicles, vans and rear breakdown support. Christopher Duffy, a leading voice for the protest movement, told SnD Media the action is a last resort: “Businesses are to the wall and are going to go out of business. People are really struggling now and it’s just not feasible to survive.” The core demand is to cut fuel prices to €1 per litre for green diesel and €1.70 for white. We spoke with Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín this evening who described the protests as “organic” and accused the government of “taxing the people out of business and leaving them in a situation where they cannot put food on the table.” He added: “Fuel is not a luxury and should stop being taxed as such. The government must sit down and sort this out.” Motorists have been urged to plan alternative routes or delay non-essential travel completely tomorrow especially into Dublin. Organisers say the protest will remain peaceful and unfortunately static at times due to the shear volume of vehicles involved across the country.

Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael need to meet with the agricultural contractors, farmers and hauliers who are out on protest due to rising fuel prices which have people under huge pressure. Sneers and threats from government need to stop. If the government had listened to Sinn Féin weeks ago, all of this would have been avoided. Their half measure were never going to work. Prices are too high, way beyond what people can afford. We need prices to come down. The Dáil should be sitting to pass the emergency measures needed.
