As the partial DHS shutdown continues, Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) says the standoff between Democrats and Republicans “is not done yet” and says “the president is illegally paying, apparently, TSA agents.” “If there's one power that Congress has, it's the power of the purse. This president has consistently and universally said that he, in fact, has that power,” he says.

As President Trump rejects Iran's latest proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restart talks, Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) says “the Iranians now, in some sense, control what happens on Election Day.” “They understand that they now have a massive impact on what happens in November simply because they control the flow of oil and fertilizer and other stuff out of the strait, he says. “Do you think they are giving up that position before the election? Of course they’re not.”

Rep. Jim Himes, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, criticized President Trump's decision to tap Bill Pulte as acting director of national intelligence, telling Margaret Brennan “he doesn't have an iota of national security experience.” “There is no way that the authorities and assets of the intelligence community can be in the hands of an individual who showed that his sole reason for being in Washington is to do the president's political laundry,” Himes (D-CT) says.

President Trump says the U.S. military has knocked out 42 Iranian naval ships in three days, "some of them very large," he adds. "That was the end of the navy; we knocked out their air force. We knocked out their communications and all telecommunications is gone," Trump says. "I don't know how they communicate, but I guess they will figure something out. It's not working out too well."

Asked why he released a statement saying no foreign adversary had attempted to interfere with election infrastructure or vote counting ahead of the midterm elections, Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT), the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, explains, “As the president careens towards a very substantial loss in the election, we know that he's going to deny its legitimacy.” “He is quite possibly going to claim that the Iranians have taken control of the voting machinery in Florida or in North Carolina,” Himes says. He adds that while U.S. officials granted him assurances that they’ll provide real-time intelligence on this matter, “they only partly make me comfortable.”

Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) says the Senate's effort to reauthorize FISA Section 702, a key foreign surveillance power, has effectively stalled following President Trump's selection of Bill Pulte as acting director of national intelligence, which Himes says is “the worst and most dangerous” of Trump’s appointments. Himes argues the “only right answer” is for Trump to withdraw Pulte's appointment in favor of someone who will give “everybody more confidence that this is somebody with some experience who won't abuse intelligence authorities.”

TOTAL CONTROL: President Trump says the U.S. naval blockade is in full effect in the Strait of Hormuz and is "a wall of steel." Sec. of War Pete Hegseth says the blockade can be maintained “indefinitely.” “We will rotate ships in and out as we have and we will continue to do that.” Jonathan Hunt tells Martha MacCallum on The Story that, as a result of that blockade, President Trump says the U.S. now has total control over the Strait of Hormuz and “there is nothing Iran can do about it.”

🚨🇺🇲🇨🇳🇹🇼 BIG | Trump's advisers fear that China's invasion of Taiwan could be accelerated – this will, without a doubt, be the biggest and most significant event of the 21st century, where the future of the world will be decided. In more detail, Trump's advisers fear that the China summit increased the risk of Xi Jinping invading Taiwan within the next five years. They warn that this could disrupt chip supply chains critical for artificial intelligence and the broader U.S. economy. One adviser noted that Xi is trying to position China as an equal power to the U.S., saying: "We are not a rising power. We are your equal. And Taiwan is mine." The adviser also added: "This visit signaled a much higher likelihood that the Taiwan issue will be on the table in the next five years."
