Yeap. This is very common now. POS devices have advanced very quick in East Asia. Most ppl dont realize. The pictures here also help the company sell the platform for their billing systems. Reduces customer wait time and increases volume. @fncischen

When I visited a popular sushi place in Sapporo Japan, it was the same. The plates, bowls, containers, etc, are categorised, & serves only one particular item. Thus it is easy for the server to scan & checkout is swift & accurate. Enjoyed the process.

Scanning the bin because unscrupulous customers would try to put the rfid dishes into the bin to avoid paying. And before you comment that's why sushi train restaurants don't clear dishes and have no bins. It happens in Japan too.

You pay for wasting food. That's the deal. To reduce the amount of excess waste, like america has, they charge the consumer for how much they DIDNT eat, aswell. So YOU, as the consumer, are more aware of how much you eat/spend/waste on meals.
