The Birdcage was released 30 years ago. Robin Williams’ slip and fall during the famous “shrimp” scene wasn’t planned. He actually fell, and Hank Azaria and Dan Futterman are visibly trying not to laugh in the shot.

So interesting to hear Nathan Lane remember how Robin Williams swooped in to protect Nathan from being outed before he was ready during the promo tour for The Birdcage in 1996. Here's the moment when it happened, and Nathan reflecting on it almost 30 years later:

Robin Williams’ fall in this scene wasn’t scripted. If you watch closely, you can see him and the other actors trying to hold back their laughter as the unexpected moment unfolds.

If you think modern comedies are "edgy," go back and watch Robin Williams trying to teach Nathan Lane how to walk like John Wayne. It’s been nearly 30 years and we still haven't reached this level of comedic perfection. 🎬🎥 The Birdcage ❤️🔥

Medicine Man was released 34 years ago. John McTiernan shot deep in the Amazon with real locations and minimal sets. The rainforest wasn’t dressed or controlled. Weather, insects, and isolation shaped the footage.

Robin Williams improvised scene in Good Will Hunting made the cameraman laugh so hard the camera started shaking and Matt Damon didn't even have to fake his laugh.

Inferno was released 46 years ago today. Much of the film was shot without synced sound. Argento planned the visuals first and added dialogue and effects later in post. That’s why the movie feels slightly off-kilter.

Hank Jr fell off Ajax Mountain 51 years ago today. He fell almost 500 foot, breaking his face and skull. He had to learn how to talk and sing again, having over 17 surgeries to reconstruct his face and skull, which lead to the glasses, long hair and beard he became famous for to hide his scars

Phone Booth was released 24 years ago today. Colin Farrell’s tears in the confession scene were real. He hadn’t slept due to insomnia and was already emotional before filming. He delivered the scene in a single take.

During the scene in HOOK when Peter Pan chooses a successor before he leaves Neverland, none of the Lost Boys actors actually knew who Robin Williams would give his sword too, a secret kept strictly between Spielberg and Williams, so when Pan hands the sword over to Thud Butt, his reaction and everyone else's was genuine shock and awe. Dante Basco who played Rufio confirmed on twitter stating, "When they shot this scene, none of the Lost Boys knew who Peter was going to give the sword to!". Really cool.

BATMAN FOREVER was released 31 years ago today. Robin Williams desperately wanted to play the Riddler but after feeling he had been used as leverage during casting negotiations on an earlier Batman film, he refused to meet with Warner Bros.

Sally Field says Robin Williams “wasn’t funny” to her while filming Mrs. Doubtfire despite constantly trying to make her laugh. “Robin was always trying something different to make me laugh. It was so unfunny. I can’t begin to tell you.” Then Pierce Brosnan did something incredibly stupid and instantly broke her. “We were sitting at a table at t he restaurant, and he made a fart noise on his arm. And I was gone. That was it.”
