More awesome footage of one of the most ethereal forest creatures: the lynx. We captured more daytime footage of lynx this past winter than in any previous winter, in large part, because we had many more cameras out this winter compared to previous years (had ~350 cameras out this winter). And more cameras means, we get more neat observations like these (plus higher-quality data on wolves in the area, which is the main reason we deploy so many cameras). Note: this is the 2nd video of our “best" lynx footage from this winter. See our post on Monday for the 1st video if you haven’t watched that one yet. Both have some pretty neat sequences in our opinion! Huge thanks to the >8,700 individual donors whose generosity has allowed us to deploy a large number of trail cameras and capture neat footage like this to share with everyone.

It really is the little things 🫶 We gave our fans disposable cameras for a day and this was the result.

This is our future with these flock cameras. They really tried getting her for a crime she didn’t commit simply because she was in the area and they used the cameras as evidence

Awesome footage of a wolf pack erupting in a howl on top of a frozen beaver lodge this past winter! You can hear the howls of the adults and the yipping of the pups, which sound kind of like coyotes. Literally, the only way we keep our 350-400 cameras going year round, capturing footage like this, is via donations. So, if you enjoy our trail camera footage, please donate to our annual fundraiser at the link below—we use these funds to purchase more trail cameras, buy batteries, SD cards, locks, mounts, etc. The trail cameras not only capture cool footage we can share but also provide us with invaluable data to study and understand pup survival, pack dynamics, and many other aspects of wolf ecology. You can support our work here:

Blackstone cannot continue to come into our communities and force out families who want to buy a home. Blackstone has done nothing for our country. Everyday Americans built this country. They are the ones who deserve our single-family homes, not private equity "businesses."

This small, remote wildlife trail yielded some amazing footage of wolves and other creatures over the past year this past winter (January to May). This trail is used by both the Mithrandir Pack (hence the name of the trail) and the Nashata Pack. Both packs are in this video, and are the primary reason we have a camera here—the other neat footage of other wildlife is just a bonus! We have put cameras on many small trails like this in hopes that they are used by wolves so we can get good observations. Often we put cameras out and they are total duds or just so-so. But every once in a while, we find a gem…and this is a gem in our minds. Also, this camera was from last winter…but you will notice the scenery hardly looks like a Minnesota winter. Thats because we basically did not have winter last year. Last year was the mildest winter on record for the Voyageurs area, and we had little snow cover for most of the winter and temps were regularly above freezing. Very odd times but made getting around the woods pretty nice!

Over the past 5 years, our trail cameras have captured some amazing footage of wolves and other wildlife during winter…here are some of our best winter captures. Donations to our Give to the Max Day fundraiser (link below) go directly toward our upcoming winter field season and helping us keep our 350-400 trail cameras functioning all winter long. We need 1,100 folks to make a donation of any size ($5, $10, $25, $50, etc) by the end of TODAY to help us secure an additional $6K for our research. We need to get to 1,500 donors to unlock these "bonus" funds and 400 folks have already donated! All this support keeps our trail cameras, and most importantly, our research going strong. This allows us to share all of the best footage and our major research findings with everyone for free. So donate here (and get a super cool sticker for doing so):
