Maniac. Always put a knot in the end of the rope.

This rappelling technique is wrong and unsafe on so many levels😱 I hope the guy is not dead by now, but he really need to fix his safety procedures

Was he supposed to have a better rappel tool other than a ring? Something like this one: ?

no prussik --> no stopper knot --> death a pipeline as old as time!

Face death enough & you just get used to the process, hence the controlled response that others perceive as calm. The laugh is him whistling past the grave yard.

Damn! He was losing rope even after he caught it! This guy is way too casual and his luck may run out one day. Maybe it was a planned stunt that ended up cutting way too close.

why does he continue right down to the end of the rope? when he had a good bit of slack and could have just swung to safety? if that rope would have slipped just a little he'd be gone. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

He would have been wise to stop about 6-10 feet from the end and tie the rope off around his carabiner. That would free both hands and remove the risk of the rope slipping through.

Never mind not having a knot at the end of that rope, how amateur an error Is it to rappel with a rope that’s you didn’t ensure would be long enough to touch the ground?

You have to be calm to get out of a situation like that, there’s no choice but to just try to stay calm and let the survival instincts kick in.

ngl that level of composure is rare, most people would've panicked for sure

Been there as a rock-climber. The descender (figure-8) device takes the weight off the hand holding the rope & lets you lock it off by pulling the hand downwards. He really shouldn't have gone so close to the end though. Totally unnecessary risk.

For those who don’t know, he was slowed down by his enormous brass nards banging on the tower.

And, Bullshit... You are going to repel down a line that is obviously too short, by at least 40 feet?

He is calm because he very clearly knows how long the rope is. And if he didn't know then he's a moron, in which case every step he takes is a near death experience. You don't climb a 100ft structure and only bring 75ft of rope to get back down
