I lost respect for Kruszelnicki way back in the 1990s when he used to do a regular "science" segment on Triple J and a number of claims he made were opinion, not fact. A classic example was his claim that the venom from a Daddy-long-legs spider (Pholcus phalangioides) was the most toxic in the world. He kept stating that for years until an arachnologist contacted him live on air to tell him he was wrong.

That was never the real fatality rate, that amount of bodies did not start piling up even before the vaccine. There was cross mucosal immunity from other coronaviruses, and actual fatality rate varied but was something like 0.1%
