The colony drop from Gundam The Origin movie. The structure is 4.5 billion tons striking at nearly 11 km/s. That's 65 gigatons of energy. Its sectional density is 139 tons/m^2, meaning it would easily get through the 10 tons/m^2 atmosphere.

Is the eventual devastation it caused accurate, or would it have been even worse?

The energy equivalent of 1,000,000,000 tons of TNT. Or the output of 20 Tsar Bombas.

TNT equivalent, ok. Righteous.

Would it strike at 11 km/s? After all, it's mostly hollow, so pretty undense, so I'd expect it to lose a lot of velocity on contact with the atmosphere.
