Very happy to report the presence of natural gas in Sri Vijayapuram-3 an exploratory well drilled by Oil India Ltd. 15 km off the east coast of the Andaman Islands at a water depth of 355 meters. Initial production testing of the well at the depth of 1900 plus meters in the Eocene formation has established the presence of natural gas through continuous flaring. Oil India is carrying out gas sampling to assess the composition & calorific value of gas and to carry out isotope studies to understand the genesis of the gas. Under the Samudra Manthan Mission (National Deep Water Exploration Mission) announced by Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi Ji on Independence Day 2025, large number of deepwater & Ultra deepwater exploration wells are planned in our offshore basins to fully exploit our hydrocarbon reserves. Presence of hydrocarbon is now reported in 2(Two) wells out of 3 (Three) exploratory wells drilled by OIL in current exploratory campaign off Andaman Basin. NEW: Somali Minister of Petroleum has confirmed that oil exploration conducted off the coast of Somalia, specifically within the Galmudug regional statehas proven to be commercially viable. He stated that the first well will be drilled early this year. Furthermore, the Minister mentioned that seven additional offshore blocks have been awarded to American and British companies, which are expected to begin their exploration activities before the end of this year.

Initial production testing of the well in the range of 2212 – 2250 meters has established the presence of natural gas with intermittent flaring. The gas samples were brought by ship to Kakinada, were tested and found to be 87% methane. The size of the gas pool and commercial viability of the discovery will get verified in the coming months but establishing the presence of hydrocarbons in the Andaman basin is a major step in confirming our long held belief that Andaman basin is rich in natural gas, in line with discoveries in the entire area from Myanmar in North to Indonesia in the south in this belt. Section 22 of the Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to choose their trade, occupation, or profession freely. This right has been a subject of significant judicial interpretation regarding the extent to which foreign nationals may claim these economic rights . The Constitutional Court has emphasized that while South Africa's Constitution is inclusive and applies to all who live in the Republic, there is an ongoing tension between this universalism and the state's obligation to safeguard national assets for its citizens . Courts have grappled with whether foreign nationals can claim socio-economic rights, property rights, and the freedom of trade and occupation to engage fully in sectors like mining and agriculture. The Constitution does not grant foreign nationals unlimited economic rights the state can regulate business participation to protect national interests and this is what our government doesn’t understand…..

The House of Lords just voted to regret Ed Miliband’s obsessive net zero policy, which has been criticised by Tony Blair, GMB and Unite the Union, because it is leading to higher energy costs and lower economic growth. Tonight’s vote sends a clear message that the next Prime Minister must urgently reassess our approach to energy policy, focusing on lower bills, higher growth and licensing of oil and gas exploration in the North Sea.
