so many old artifacts and icons are counterfeit and were faked as far back as the 1st & 2nd century AD by the same people who faked the certifiably illegitimate gospels which were forged long after all the eyewitnesses were dead --- and they were done so for profit and acclaim.

If this is real, there'd be endless references to it in the voluminous writings of the early church in the 1st couple of centuries, but there is NOT. The earliest references show up 400 years after the crucifixion and still we're not sure the one we have today is the same one.
