Adire is trending because FG has replaced the NYSC khaki with Yoruba-traditional Adire fabric., Nigerians argue it is a joke. — It isn’t. According to Youth Minister, the fabric is already being produced in Ogun and Kwara state. So the adoption will keep the money in Nigeria. Many Nigerians have argued that using the cultural fabric of one ethnic group in a multi-ethnic nation like Nigeria as the uniform for its national service negates the schemes original concept of unity. Hence, it should be reviewed. However the minister, 36yr old Ayodele Olawande said he’s a youth so he understands what the youths want. And the implementation of the new reforms requires senate approval. Then, they’d begin the gradual implementation process. The scheme was created by decree in 1973 by Yakubu Gowon, shortly after the Civil War, to promote national unity, reconciliation, and integration by deploying graduates to states other than their own. This would be first time in 53yrs it would be getting reformed. Infact, other countries have youth programs, but Nigeria will be the first to adopt a mono-ethnic display for a multiethnic group. As it shifts focus on entrepreneurship. Adire is a type of dyedcloth traditionally made by Yoruba women, using a variety of resist-dyeing techniques. Since I assumed the position of Minister of Education, I have received numerous messages and letters from Part-time ND and HND students and those who have transitioned to full-time courses about their exemption from National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). As I told the students at Yaba Tech today, the Federal Ministry of Education and our agencies stand with you. The Presidency stands with you as well. You should not be exempted from participating in NYSC. I will be meeting with the Director-General of the NYSC in March to discuss this matter further. A solution is on the way.
