That completely changes the conversation. Instead of being seen as “the evil data center guys,” we can help power Utah’s grid while also building critical AI infrastructure for the future. And despite the headlines, we’re not building the world’s largest data center overnight. We’re starting with just 1.5 gigawatts with 1 gigawatt of net IT load a small fraction of the long-term proposal and proving the model first. And it’s not a 40,000 acre data center. Our project a full build out will span 10-13k acres 7,500 of which will be preserved. We want the people of Box Elder County to come see it themselves, the EPA air quality standards, the water permits, the noise compliance, and how the project actually operates before anything scales further.

I take partial blame along with the rest of the industry. We did not communicate the difference between a data center built in Virginia 20 years ago and what we're building now. Most data centers today don't use more water than a golf course, and so that's a huge package of misinformation. Additionally, everybody has to bring their own power. The major benefit to that is we need more power in America. Not just data centers, we need overall power. In Utah for example, I have to bring my own power and build power not only for the data center, but to give back to the community to keep power costs down. That's a major benefit. That's gonna happen across the country.

That's China's plan to win the AI race and control the next century. But that DOES NOT mean data centers should just drain public power. I'm dead set against any data center that has a SINGLE line feeding them power from the grid. But some are generating their own power and giving the excess TO the grid. Those are two very different scenarios. Thankfully, Kevin O'Leary has said his data center project in Utah will generate its own power. THIS IS A MUST. Just like railroads, factories, oil, and electricity powered previous generations, the future will run on AI computing, powered by massive amounts of energy. We need both to stop China from dominating the world. China knows this and is trying to turn data centers into a boogeyman. There’s evidence out now from the Bitcoin Policy Institute that foreign influence networks are actively feeding this anti-data center movement in the United States. They traced several overlapping campaigns, all aimed at slowing American AI infrastructure down, directly to China. Strong countries build infrastructure. Weak countries fear it. We can't fall for their trap. But we must also build strategically without sacrificing public resources.

Kevin O'Leary just accused China of secretly funding every protest against AI in America. He says he has the proof and he's handing it to the FBI. The Shark Tank legend went on Diary of a CEO and dropped some INSANE revelations: He hired forensic auditors who traced IRS 990 filings from an organization called Arabella Advisors back to what he claims are Chinese-linked funding channels. He says he has 90 pages of IP addresses from foreign sources and his team is feeding data to government agents every four hours. His executives received death threats and the FBI visited the woman responsible at her home in Denver. O'Leary's claim is that China is deliberately funding dark money networks to stop American data center and power infrastructure from being built because every month America falls behind on compute is a month China gains ground with DeepSeek. And on the surface, the logic makes sense: China built 400 gigawatts of coal power in 19 months while America struggled to approve a single facility. If you're China and you can't outbuild America, the cheapest strategy is making sure America can't build at all. But here's what O'Leary didn't mention on the podcast... He is personally BUILDING a $100 billion data center in Utah called Stratos that would consume more electricity than the entire state. 40,000 acres across three sites, more than double the size of Manhattan, powered by 9 gigawatts of on-site natural gas generation. It would be the single largest data center ever proposed in America. And the residents of Box Elder County are trying to kill it. Hundreds packed a fairgrounds in Tremonton to protest but the commissioners voted to approve it anyway. Residents immediately launched a referendum campaign. O'Leary's response was to accuse 90% of the protesters of being paid actors coming from out of state. The Salt Lake Tribune investigated that claim and found it wasn't true. Then his OWN business partner walked back the China accusations. KSL reported last week that the Stratos team quietly shifted from claiming Chinese government funding to simply questioning where progressive nonprofits get their donations. FOX 13 reported that O'Leary had not released any of the documents he promised would prove the China connection. Meanwhile the groups he accused responded directly: Alliance for a Better Utah said "the only foreign interest in this data center is Kevin from Canada." Elevate Strategies posted a video saying "we are not Chinese foreign operatives" and that their opposition is about water, power, and the Great Salt Lake. So here's the reality that makes this story actually matter... Every major data center developer in America is about to face the same problem. Communities don't WANT these facilities. 7 in 10 Americans oppose local data center construction because energy costs are rising and water tables are dropping. Kevin O'Leary just showed the playbook for how they plan to deal with opposition. You don't debate the environmental concerns or negotiate with residents... You accuse anyone who pushes back of being a Chinese agent, wrap the entire project in a national security narrative, and make opposing a data center sound like treason. The Shark Tank legend went on Diary of a CEO and dropped some INSANE revelations: He hired forensic auditors who traced IRS 990 filings from an organization called Arabella Advisors back to what he claims are Chinese-linked funding channels. He says he has 90 pages of IP addresses from foreign sources and his team is feeding data to government agents every four hours. His executives received death threats and the FBI visited the woman responsible at her home in Denver. O'Leary's claim is that China is deliberately funding dark money networks to stop American data center and power infrastructure from being built because every month America falls behind on compute is a month China gains ground with DeepSeek. And on the surface, the logic makes sense: China built 400 gigawatts of coal power in 19 months while America struggled to approve a single facility. If you're China and you can't outbuild America, the cheapest strategy is making sure America can't build at all. But here's what O'Leary didn't mention on the podcast... He is personally BUILDING a $100 billion data center in Utah called Stratos that would consume more electricity than the entire state. 40,000 acres across three sites, more than double the size of Manhattan, powered by 9 gigawatts of on-site natural gas generation. It would be the single largest data center ever proposed in America. And the residents of Box Elder County are trying to kill it. Hundreds packed a fairgrounds in Tremonton to protest but the commissioners voted to approve it anyway. Residents immediately launched a referendum campaign. O'Leary's response was to accuse 90% of the protesters of being paid actors coming from out of state. The Salt Lake Tribune investigated that claim and found it wasn't true. Then his OWN business partner walked back the China accusations. KSL reported last week that the Stratos team quietly shifted from claiming Chinese government funding to simply questioning where progressive nonprofits get their donations. FOX 13 reported that O'Leary had not released any of the documents he promised would prove the China connection. Meanwhile the groups he accused responded directly: Alliance for a Better Utah said "the only foreign interest in this data center is Kevin from Canada." Elevate Strategies posted a video saying "we are not Chinese foreign operatives" and that their opposition is about water, power, and the Great Salt Lake. So here's the reality that makes this story actually matter... Every major data center developer in America is about to face the same problem. Communities don't WANT these facilities. 7 in 10 Americans oppose local data center construction because energy costs are rising and water tables are dropping. Kevin O'Leary just showed the playbook for how they plan to deal with opposition. You don't debate the environmental concerns or negotiate with residents... You accuse anyone who pushes back of being a Chinese agent, wrap the entire project in a national security narrative, and make opposing a data center sound like treason. Because if the people fighting your project are patriots worried about their water and electricity bills, you have a problem. But if they're Chinese-funded saboteurs trying to DESTROY American AI dominance, you have a mandate. Every data center developer on Earth is watching Utah right now. Claims that we’re going to consume all of Utah’s electricity, drain the Great Salt Lake, or immediately build the world’s largest facility simply aren’t true. The reality is we’re building the project in phases, starting with a standard sized 1.5 gigawatt facility powered entirely by our own generation infrastructure not Utah’s grid. In fact, the goal is to eventually contribute power back into the local system to help stabilize energy costs. This project would create thousands of construction jobs, thousands more long term engineering and support jobs, and major tax revenue for Box Elder County over the next decade. We’re also going through every required process EPA approvals, water permits, air permits, noise compliance, and public review. What concerns me most is how aggressively misinformation has been amplified around power development projects across America. After conducting audits and reviewing IRS filings, we found organizations like Alliance for a Better Utah receiving funding through networks connected to Arabella and foreign linked money tied to Chinese interests. I’ve turned everything over to federal authorities because people deserve facts not fear campaigns when deciding the future of their communities.

Who's Really Profiting from Alberta's Data Centers? The Alberta government calls data centers a multi-billion-dollar opportunity. But what's the return for Albertans? These projects demand enormous amounts of electricity, natural gas, water and public infrastructure. They place new pressures on municipalities and local communities, yet the government has provided very little information about the long-term economic benefits to Albertans. How much provincial tax revenue will they generate? What will they cost taxpayers and how will they affect affordability and inflation? Why are municipalities and local residents being sidelined in the process? I'm not opposed to data centers. Alberta should absolutely compete for investment. But attracting investment at any cost isn't good government. If Albertans are expected to provide the land, infrastructure, energy and public services that make these projects possible, then Albertans should be the first to benefit - not the last. We need transparency, accountability and a framework that protects the public interest before we commit billions of dollars' worth of Alberta's resources. The Fed and Wall Street want you focused on AI as the story of growth. Look at where the money is actually going. Hyperscalers are about to flood the market with tens of billions in bonds. That capital has to come from somewhere. Every dollar that funds a data center is a dollar not funding a mortgage, a bank bond, an industrial company. Meanwhile the jobs that should come with a real industrial revolution aren't showing up. Hiring is flat. Younger workers are vanishing from payrolls. And a data center, once built, runs on a tiny fraction of the workforce the spending implies. The productivity gains that were supposed to justify all this are nowhere to be found yet, and may not show up for years. Which raises the real question nobody in the headlines is asking: what is all this capital actually buying.

My job is to communicate the facts, and that's what I do. 20 years ago, even 10 years ago, data centers in Virginia, where they started, used a lot of water and it caused prices to go up when it was attached to the grid. Well, you cannot attach the grid anymore. The Utah project contemplates bringing new power to Utah. All of the power will be created from nat gas pipeline that runs through there, and will give back to the community. It will generate enough power that some percentage of it will go back to the grid. If you want China to overtake our ability to develop cutting edge technology, you stop data centers. So that's the cause and effect of it all. If you want China to lead, take over our, let's call it democracy, our free speech, and the way we live with technology, just stop building data centers. It's that simple.
