Meryl Streep is 77 today & it’s a great reminder that Streep, alongside Robert De Niro, is breathtaking in The Deer Hunter, which earned Streep an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. The Deer Hunter is as good as Cinema gets & marked the end of the New Hollywood era. Streep was there for all of it. She’s still here & I’m thankful. 🎂

The Godfather: Part II won the Academy Award for Best Picture just two years after the first film won Best Picture. Francis Ford Coppola didn’t win Best Director for the first film but won it for the second. I think Christopher Nolan could do what Coppola couldn’t do with the first two Godfathers- win Best Picture and Best Director twice in a row. That’s the level of history we’re dealing with here.

You know what I’ll never understand? The snub of Clarence Maclin in Sing Sing for best supporting actor at Oscars. He should’ve won imo. A24, Academy & most on here dropped the ball. Kieran,Edward,Guy,Yuri & Jeremy were all good tho. Don’t get me started on Colman Domingo either.
