The Democrats thought this problem was worth fixing back in 2023, when 62 percent of Biden administration nominees were being confirmed by or voice vote. The nominations process is broken. Senate Republicans and I are taking steps to fix it.

As of today, President Donald J. Trump has not had a single one of his civilian nominees confirmed by unanimous consent or voice vote. If Democrats continue to drag out the confirmation of every single one of the nominations of a duly elected president, then we are going to have to take steps to get this process back on a reasonable footing.

We have to fix what Democrats have broken. The alternative is that they keep blocking and delaying the president’s team from getting in place, leaving the administration short-staffed by hundreds of positions at the end of President Trump’s term. I’m taking steps to end it.

These Republicans are not willing to fight like Democrats, who confirmed countless radical nominees for Joe Biden. The country club wing of the Republican Party wants to look majestic as the string orchestra did when the Titanic was going down. Yes, more people are attempting to come across the border now than under previous administrations, but the borders aren't more "open" now, except for Biden ending the harsh "remain in Mexico policy" and COVID restrictions expiring. The problem is that Republicans don’t want to fix the problem. Their goal isn’t to try and solve the issue now. Their goal is to use the issue to make Biden and Democrats look bad. They want to use the border to get Trump elected and then try and fix the problem when Trump is in office. The problem is, they didn’t fix the problem last time Trump was in office, even when they had both chambers of Congress.
