When a motion for the removal of the Speaker is taken up, Article 96 makes it very clear that the Speaker cannot sit in the Chair. The actions of the Speaker also cannot be admitted at that point of time. You (Jagdambika Pal) have been appointed by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. You are sitting there as a member of the panel of chairpersons appointed by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Article 93 states: “The House of the People shall, as soon as may be, choose two members of the House to be respectively Speaker and Deputy Speaker thereof and, so often as the office of the Speaker or Deputy Speaker becomes vacant, the House shall choose another member to be Speaker or Deputy Speaker, as the case may be.” Immediately after the election, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker are supposed to be elected. For the last seven years, you have not elected a Deputy Speaker. You have created a constitutional vacuum. This question is very clear. It is incredibly dishonest for leaders to fabricate falsehoods about the government-to-government oil deal. This distortion of facts serves as nothing but a diversionary tactic to mitigate the loss of business. As a trader in the oil industry, the termination of dubious practices from the previous regime has struck a nerve. The current outcry is a direct consequence of their inability to exploit the system any longer. They are using the country and its citizens as pawns in their quest to retain control over an oil industry that has now been liberated from their grasp.

The Government is potentially in contempt of Parliament. By failing to publish unredacted documents, they are failing to abide by the Humble Address on Lord Mandelson's appointment as our Ambassador to the US. This is unacceptable, and unless the Government stops the obfuscation, I will raise the matter as a matter of contempt. I reminded the House that the now PM, Keir Starmer, established a precedent for this in December 2018, when he secured a motion holding the then-Government in contempt.
