Face it. Y'all SWO skimmer pukes can't figure out what your ship classes' missions are. As of modern times, destroyers and cruisers are the fookin same.

The main difference is that the US called essentially the same ships destroyer escorts in WWII, and the British called them frigates.

Is it a faux pas to point out that cruisers and destroyers shared hulls for most of the eighties and nineties? The Ticonderoga class cruisers are built on Spruance class destroyer hulls.

'Destroyer' was invented as the name for ships whose job was to destroy enemy torpedo boats. They had to be fast enough to catch them, and with more guns. Since then, destroyer has come to mean whatever navies want it to mean.

Destroyer sounds cooler and is more likely to get funded than cruiser.

tonnage wise they are both light cruisers. No real destroyers as the Us navy has few, if any frigates left which might fit the role.

Cruisers were originally a ship capable of carrying out missions, such as commerce protection, without the support of a fleet. Conceptually, the Trump class BB brings that idea back and allows the surface navy to cut the CVs apron strings.

This video makes no sense. Many ships have same mission now and are built on same basic design and blue print.

Sometimes a frigate can be as powerful and reliable as a destroyer and a corvette can be a as frigate. Case in point: the Russian Navy’s Admiral Grigorovich frigate is equal to the Royal Navy’s Type 45 Destroyer’s and the Steregushchiy-class corvettes are basically frigates
