I'm not shitting on Maradona, it's about people turning this story into a moral talking point just to farm engagement, rather than genuinely understanding what Diego was about.

I'm not exactly talking about you but there's huge trend about that in Argentina where people are doing it just for engagements. What annoys me in this most is the constant need to turn everything into Messi vs Maradona. If someone doesn’t like something Messi does, the first reaction is “Maradona would never do that.” The reality is they were completely different people. Diego himself had controversial political ties and positions too, those who know his story know about that. Criticism shouldn’t be used just to glorify the other. If people genuinely care about the issue, judge each situation on its own instead of forcing this moral comparison every time.

I have no idea about Argentinian engagement farming on this issue (the only Argentinian farming engagement I care about is the Icardashians as you very well know lol). The point is they are very different people, that is just a fact. Some will hate Diego for his politics, others like me who are on his side politically will love him, that’s just the reality. And people will never deny Messi’s talent on the pitch, but Diego would never, ever stand behind a war criminal boasting about his war crimes & applaud like a clapping seal. And it’s normal those differences are accentuated & discussed. Diego was a man who had many flaws in his personal life. No-one denies that. But on matters of anti-imperialism, independence for the global south, standing by his social-economic class: he was unequivocally clear & on the right side of history. Messi, not so much.
