maybe if you remember - in the OT - Lucas told them to imagine the sabers wee rather heavy - so more like swinging a broad sword than a fencing epee as they appeared in the prequels

Interesting, for me the difference between the originals and prequels lightsaber fights is much more painful. Overchoreographed beyond the breaking point, because of spectacle. So opinions are a treacherous thing.

They were not consistent with the fighting style of the originals and that's bothering me.

@FantasyGalaxies Jedi at their peak with their whole life trained vs... Crippled Vader in his suit, and noob Jedi. It makes sense. The sequels are way more painful becuase Kylo was supposed to have been trained since youth.

1. There’s only one Ray Park. 2. Obi-Wan is a Jedi Master & was Training Anakin to be the same. 3. Rey is a novice Jedi Knight & no one formally trained Kylo Ren to use a lightsaber.

You're a child who likes shiny objects. The emotional core is just Obi Wan defeating Anakin. It didn't need to be a 20 minute fight like it's Dragon Ball. This is why the original trilogy fights still are best because it's about the characters, not the actual fight itself.

don't make me defend the sequel, because you obviously don't know why the original trilogy fight is better than both. prequel fight is eye candy with zero soul, while sequel fight is mimicking the og trilogy fight.

Ok but this is how light saber fights were in the original series. I would argue the sequels match the originals better Yes, it would be cool to see fights like this for the other 6 but you can’t sit there and hate one while praising the other

For all those saying it was because they “lacked training” in the sequel trilogies, remember that much of the reason for their proficiency is because of the Force. They can block *laser blasts* because they instinctively “know” where they will be. Rey was supposed to be a Force prodigy. She did the Jedi Mind Trick with zero training. Also, it is highly unlikely that Kyle Ren wouldn’t have stroked his own ego in the years he had after leaving Luke by training with the traditional weapon of Force users. He would have a distinct advantage over those who cannot use the Force. The lackluster lightsaber battles are contrary to the characters they have tried to portray.

Pre-Disney era the lightsabers were aluminum poles that they would actually make contact with. So the choreography was full contact sparring. Disney Star Wars is clearly choreographed, but you can tell they didn’t do it together, and each person was trained individually and practiced without contact.

Really? Painful? I’ll be the first to admit that the sequels were a tremendous disappointment. But the fight choreography is more realistic. It’s based off fighting with broadswords, much like the original trilogy. The prequel choreography is fun to look at, but to feels less like a fight and more like a high energy dance. There is little tension in it.

Very hard to find women who can move convincingly in any sort of duel. Almost guaranteed anyone capable is Asian. Won't get good duels with women unless casting with physical ability as a pre-requisite, rather than willingness to be passed around by Jewish Hollywood studio execs.

If you'd ever seen a real fight in your life, you'd realize that the Rey v. Kylo fight, while certainly not perfect, is far more like a real fight and not just choreographed dancing with laser swords.

Daisy Ridley is a female, and a very weak and unathletic one at that. Adam Driver is no Ray Park, and no Ewan Macgregor either. Like most of Hollywood slop, they tried to force a female into a man's role and the viewers were the one's who suffered. There are multiple youtube duals from nobodies 10x better than this trash.

Rey looked more like she was using a baseball bat than a lightsaber.

Context is everything rey and Kyle are barely trained compared to Obi-Wan. Also directors focusing on whats important in a scene.

It wouldn’t have made sense in universe for Rey and Kylo to be able to fight with the grace and skill of highly trained Jedi masters
