In Division III, Region 10 action, #3 Padua Bruins Baseball punched its ticket to the Regional Final with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Sylvania Southview Baseball, despite being outhit 7-4. Talented 2028 two-way prospect Chase Martin set the tone on the mound, earning the win after five strong innings. The right-hander allowed just one run on four hits and two walks while piling up 11 strikeouts. 2027 RHP Brandon Tillman took over for the final two innings and secured the save, striking out two while helping the Bruins hold off a late Southview push. Offensively, Padua was led by a pair of standout underclassmen. 2028 Braylon Benson reached base twice, scored two runs, and wreaked havoc on the bases with four stolen bags. 2029 Michael Cangelosi Jr. sparked the offense with an early triple and later scored on a Chase Martin RBI single. If you need a 1-game capsule of the skills & talent of Alex Freeland, last night was a pretty good one to bookmark. Freeland played 3rd and showed his athletic ability & arm strength on making a play on a slow roller he had to come in on. He then showed his competitive nature & toughness catching a throwdown from Hunter Feduccia to nail a runner trying to steal 3rd. As for the offensive side Freeland hit a double to the opposite field gap on a very aggressive swing in a + count, then shortened up later in the game with 2 strikes and shot one the other way for a 2-strike, 2-out, 2-RBI base hit. Freeland is hitting .333, OPS is .909. He leads the PCL in hits with 31 and also in doubles with 12. He's top 5 among qualified players in the PCL in RBIs (25), and then is top ten in BBs (14), and Stolen Bases (6). #dodgers

It was a great match as Hickman went toe to toe with Herman, who is the #23-ranked wrestler at 149. Herman hit a nice shot early in the match to get the first takedown of both that match and the dual overall. Hickman got out pretty quickly, so the score was 3-1. Herman hit another good shot, but Hickman somehow got out of it. It looked like he was going to be the one to get the points, but both wrestlers went off the mat, and neither could score for the remainder of the period, so 3-1 headed to the 2nd. Hickman started in the top position in the 2nd period and rode Herman for the entire period for 1:44 riding time. So, an escape in 44 seconds or less would tie the match. Cardinals Player Spotlight - Ray Lankford Lankford was born on June 5, 1967, in Los Angeles, California. He played as an outfielder in Major League Baseball, primarily for the St. Louis Cardinals, from 1990 to 2004, with a brief stint with the San Diego Padres in 2001-2002. After a taste of the big leagues in 1990, Lankford would finished 3rd in voting for the National League's Rookie of the Year in 1991. Lankford was known for his combination of power and speed, hitting 238 home runs and stealing 258 bases over his career. He spent most of his career with the Cardinals, where he became a fan favorite. His best season was arguably 1998, when he hit .293 with 31 home runs and 105 RBIs. Lankford hit 123 home runs at Busch Stadium II, the most of any player in the stadium's history. He finished his career in his home ballpark with a pinch hit home run in his final major league at bat on October 3, 2004. He is the only player to have 200 home runs and 200 stolen bases as a Cardinal. After retiring, he has occasionally been involved in coaching and mentoring young players.
