The difference means nothing when you look at the statistics of how much heads up most people have in self defense situations. People out here talking like they'll be attacked by John Wick and 3 tenths of a second matter.

The issue is not the time. The issue is the context. Do you have two free hands or are you carrying a child? Were you attacked from behind? Are you grappling with one hand?

Now show the guy who shot a hole in his ass and tell me if the guy without one in the chamber can do that.

0.52 seconds is huge? It is utterly immaterial. Also, the chances of you ever shooting your gun in self defense are essentially zero. This is cosplay.

Without being chambered, an AD is zero. Chambered is greater. I'd be willing to bet a AD is greater than having to use your weapon is self defense.

This actually might have convinced me that carrying with one in the chamber isn’t needed

I go back and forth on this. What situation am I realistically probable to find myself in where those fractions of a second are going to make a difference vs the risks associated with having one in the chamber already? I guess if you’re worried about hitmen being sent to assassinate you then sure, but in every other practical situation I would almost rather have that extra time to think about what I’m about to do. If I’m being robbed do I want to try and draw down on the person and get myself killed trying to be John Wick? Is all the extra manipulation and wear and tear I put on my firearm daily worth it (or the risks associating with keeping one in the chamber 24/7)? I really only carry to use my firearm in a situation where those fractions of a second are unlikely to matter. Maybe knowing I have to rack a round first will prevent me from getting myself killed. You just have to be realistic based on an honest assessment of probabilities. I currently carry hot, but I’m considering not doing that anymore. It’s a lot to think about and I’d be curious to hear what people think, especially people who have used their firearm defensively in a EDC situation before.

Not carrying with one in the chamber is like trying to put your seat belt on in the middle of a wreck.

Seconds matter, unless you're carrying a Sig p320.
