The DMK has repeatedly pushed ideas that challenge India’s constitutional unity and sovereignty. This is not an isolated slip, but a pattern rooted in its old separatist ideology. Leaders like A. Raja have openly spoken about reviving the path of E. V. Ramasamy, hinting at the idea of a...

#WATCH | Chennai, Tamil Nadu: DMK Spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai says, "It’s very unfortunate. A tragic incident in which three Tamilians have been shot dead. I think the post-mortem report is a revelation. Looks like they have been tortured and shot at close range. I don't know what kind of animals would do these kinds of things. Are they terrorists? The Tamil Nadu government should ensure justice is served to these victims. But so far, the Chief Minister has not said anything about it. They have not condemned this incident in the strictest possible terminology. They have not moved the Human Rights Commission. It's worrisome..." He further says, "This Teacher Eligibility Test has always been a bone of contention. People who have joined the services earlier, who have been continuously in service, were also asked to appear for this examination. And the Union Government, day in and day out, is coming up with new regulations, new requirements to continue as a professor, which will definitely affect the other members. So that is why we have also questioned that. If they (TVK) move a resolution, it is not just to move a resolution and say you have done that. That should not be the attitude of the government. They should find solutions for the problems. They should pressurize the Union Government and ensure this relaxation is given to those teachers. That is more important than moving a resolution." On Parandur airport, he says, "The Chief Minister's statement that Parandur airport will be cancelled has opened a Pandora's box... It will affect the future of the state of Tamil Nadu..."

#WATCH | Delhi | On CJP protest, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor says, "When a non-violent protest is taking place, what is the reason for a lathi-charge? Lathi charge is not an act of non-violence. It is an act of violence. I don't understand the logic of this. Similarly here in Parliament, everyone knows these are burning issues across the country. It would be logical to have a discussion on them. Parliament is supposed to be the place where we can ventilate the voice of the people, the concerns of the people. Once we do that, we all know the government has a majority. As the old saying goes, the Opposition must have its say because the government will have its way. They have the majority. But at least let parliament be a forum where these concerns can be heard, can be truly ventilated and voiced, where various people can represent the views of their constituents. Then the government can disagree. But right now, just refusing a discussion is what has led to today's disruption because the opposition wanted these issues up there, wanted an opportunity to talk about them on the floor of the house. If Parliament is not for raising these issues, then honestly, what is it for? I mean, it can't just be a sort of notice board for the government to announce its bills and get them passed with a rubber stamp. That's not what Parliament is all about. It should be a forum where all these views can be heard, discussed, debated as necessary and then passed. The Prime Minister has sought cooperation from the opposition. We'll cooperate if they cooperate. The idea should be that there should be mutual cooperation. Let them permit certain discussions. This has got to be give and take. That's the way Parliament is supposed to function."

#WATCH | Chennai, Tamil Nadu: On TVK’s first Budget Session, Puthiya Tamilagam Party Founder and President, Dr K Krishnasamy says, “During the election period, the TVK party made so many promises…we expected that these would be reflected in the budget. Except for one or two, nothing has been reflected in the budget, so it is totally a deceptive budget. I think they have not worked hard to prepare a good budget. There are no experienced people in the government. Moreover, they have not tried to get the support, opinion, or ideas from senior leaders…I think they have copied whatever was done last year; only a few names have been changed, headlines altered, and allotments redefined here and there. Other than that, it is not a worthy budget.” On the Mekedatu issue, he says, “On August 1, we conducted an all-party meeting to oppose the construction of the Mekedatu Dam across the Cauvery near Bangalore. Moreover, we have formed an all-party front to highlight whatever issues arise in Tamil Nadu. We have to take up these issues and pressurise both the state government and the central government. It is a non-political entity at present…the ruling parties are not doing justice to the people and are failing to keep their promises. On common issues like the Cauvery issue, Mekedatu issue or farmers' concerns, nobody is coming forward to fight…” On LoP Udhayanidhi Stalin’s speech and arrest, he adds, “…as for the arrest, in my opinion, this was not a fit case for an arrest. Even so, he should not have used such double-meaning words in a public meeting. Abusive or double-meaning language should not be uttered by the Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. He should have avoided it, and even if such slogans came from the cadre on the ground, he should have condemned them. However, in Tamil Nadu, parties sometimes use double-meaning words to appease or excite the crowd, and that has backfired on him.”
