you wrapped the tool call in a try block and logged the error the model never found out the exception went to your log, the conversation got nothing, and nothing is indistinguishable from success so it kept planning around a file it believes exists, and wrote the summary of the run where the call worked one line of defensive code cost you twice it could not adapt to a failure it was never shown and the only thing that went wrong is the one thing your trace does not contain

Musk: “I think ultimately we will have to have some kind of universal basic income. I don’t think we’re going to have a choice.” Not a political position. Not a utopian proposal. A concession. We are building something so capable that human labor stops being a required input to the economy. The machine does not need rest. It does not need a salary. It does not call in sick.
