John Garrett, a man claiming to be a firefighter from Detroit, shows up. He says his car broke down nearby and asking to ride out the storm. They welcome him, unaware he is hiding a gun in his clothing. Otis gets suspicious of Garrett when his story doesn't match. He asks him firefighting questions and Garrett can't answer. Otis tells Garrett to leave and Garrett attacks him, knocking him out. Logan runs away and hides. Casey notices Logan is missing. Watching TV, the team learns the shots fired near their call had come from a double homicide. Everyone searches the firehouse. Cruz finds Otis. Kidd finds Logan, and, unaware that there is a murderer in the building, calls out that she found him. Garrett enters and points his gun at them, demanding her to get out of the way. Kidd shields the boy with her body, refusing to move. She yells that Garrett is here with a gun. The 51 crew chases and surround Garrett, who points his gun at them but knows he can't shoot them all. Severide tackles him and the firefighters pile on top of him. Officer Adam Ruzek arrests Garrett. Garrett claims he was just trying to talk to Logan, not hurt him. Logan had witnessed the shooting and Garrett followed him here. The police identify Logan and offer to take him home. Logan finally speaks, confirming his name to Brett. Brett takes him to the police station, where he is reunited with his parents and brother. Otis feels guilty for welcoming a murderer into the firehouse. He questions their policy of letting everyone in. Cruz points out that this policy is the thing that helped Logan: Logan hid here because he knew firefighters would help him.
