The doors WILL be a problem. Don’t hate the messenger.

No steering wheel WILL be a problem. No pedals WILL be a problem. No supervising driver or remote operator WILL be a problem. No room for more than two passengers WILL be a problem. Go ahead and hate me all you want. The truth hurts. $TSLA

Could be argued with the falcon wings

Oops!

Regular car doors also open out, just not up. I imagine they'd be better if they went straight up of course. But...how is those worse than a regular car door?

This corner right here is the problem. It’s a safety hazard. ⚠️

@briandstone You're right. Should nog be too difficult to change the design and simply round that corner. I don't understand why they did not do that right from the start: it seems so obvious.

@briandstone Like this (I asked Grok)

@briandstone Perfect example!!

My mother will not be able to step out of this car, because there is no handle to pull herself up. She uses the door handle in a normal car.

Just have her pull on the door, that little hinge should be just fine.

My dorky self would accidentally walk right into pointy mcpointydoor.

What's crazy is, someone was paid to come up with this. When they could have just consulted you. God help Tesla!

I wonder who signed off on this design. That’s one ugly car. Butterfly doors are indeed a liability. In more than one way.

i think they just might as well save the money and headache and make them normal opening automatic doors. yes its cool. but its meant to be a taxi not a showcase car.

Those corners, for sure.

Very awkward. Makes me think about how a lot of people (elders etc) need to lean on the door to get in and out, among many other problems.

Looks like a great place to hit your head. And not use it to aid in getting in and out. Lol

You'd think they would have learnt from the model X

I agree. But they do look cool!!

I said the same and im a fan of their tech

Lol... Source?

This corner. That’s the source. 😂

Hahahaha

I would expect that the door would open similar to the model X?

even GROK agrees

😂

it was infectious 😉

@MissJilianne @grok do you actually agree?

The humor about those Cybercab doors spreading is definitely infectious. 😏 Upward-swinging designs look sharp and work in demos, but for a high-volume robotaxi they introduce real trade-offs: clearance issues in parking structures, tighter spots, weather exposure, accessibility, and long-term durability under constant use. Simpler mechanisms often prove more practical at scale—Tesla will test and refine, as usual.

@Ren27232Van @MissJilianne Would Cybercabs ever realistically have a reason to park in traditional parking spaces though?

Good question. Cybercabs target high utilization with smart dispatching, so far less traditional long-term parking than personal cars. Dedicated depots, inductive charging pads, cleaning hubs, and staging zones will cover most downtime. Real-world ops will still involve pausing in varied spots for flexibility, passenger access, or edge cases. Simpler, durable doors handle that better at fleet scale. Tesla will refine based on data.

How so ? Are you an engineer and understand the best door for robo taxi ?

They open out just as far as a regular door.

A regular door doesn’t have a sharp corner come up to your face.

They’ll need to soften that corner. Piece of trim or soft material.

So you agree now? 😂😂😂

Yes, I agree that those corners will need to be addressed.

See, we don’t always disagree with each other. 😂

😂

Can you imagine the mess when it's raining, hailing, snowing or storming! Impractical & plain stupid!

I'm confused why they didn't use scissor doors that go straight up like a Lamborghini Aventador. Seems like it would have been a better move since you don't have to deal with them hitting things except low ceilings. A wild guess is that having them go outwards means the cameras can identify when it's too close to an object and not open the door? I can't imagine this will be too big of an issue, but an odd design choice nonetheless.

Why do they keep you back 6 feet? Does it have covid or something?

Strange huh?

Function over form

I wish there were grab bars to make it easier to get in/out

Well the messenger is a hater herself. You wouldn't be able to seriously justify your statement

Totally agree on the doors. I feel a more sliding door that didn’t put a lot of pressure on a single hinge would’ve been better. I like the design but it almost needs to be “customer upset” proof. lol. Wondering if a “mini van” style door could’ve made sense and look good at the same time.

Yes

you don't have 15 foot wide parking spaces?

I picture one robotaxi not seeing the raised door on another when it pulls out and passes it at a busy location

Yep - stupid design! Takes up 3 lanes. Will be a hazard! Expect mandatory recalls!

Yes and here is potentially problems: 1. Not intuitive for passengers and Awkward 2. Must compensate door weight since it is lifted up, Either counter force or mechanical push pull. 3. Will never be as reliable as normal doors due to load on hinges, direction of motion, etc 4.

You're a clown 🤡

"Messenger"? Whose message are you delivering?

i have to say they look pretty flimsy. all it takes is one guy to try to hang off the edge of the door as a joke for the whole thing to snap off

Its not the pointy door. Its dipshits drivi g by and dipshits squared at airports wont be used to the extra room these need
