The new Gauteng license plate system, including its QR code and tamper-evident decal, is designed to combat crime by improving vehicle identification and traceability. By linking the QR code to a database, authorities can quickly verify ownership, licensing status, and stolen vehicle alerts, thus eliminating fraudulent plates. The tamper-evident decal further prevents plate swapping and cloning, making it harder for criminals to use fake or duplicated plates in crimes.
