Tired of people talking about me this way. 🧐🤔😉 What stinks is that the older you get the more you realize how little time you have left to learn what is knowable. Makes you sad about this finite life but motivated to add to what is known, to contribute outside of yourself.

Ignorance is bliss. 🤔

THE MORE YOU KNOW THE MORE YOU KNOW THERE IS TO KNOW.

Sure but the original study done by those two never proved any of that. It only proved that people tend to over estimate themselves.

Regarding the Dunning-Kruger effect, here's another thought: anyone who accuses someone of being a classic example of it in a heated discussion almost always ends up illustrating the very same phenomenon themselves and often more clearly than the person they're accusing. It’s one of the most self-referential and self-undermining rhetorical maneuvers in online debates. In practice, it usually just acts as a conversation killer that shuts down any chance of real exchange of thoughts.

@dovefaithhope This is why, if you ask a lawyer a legal question, one that matters, they will give you the answer “It depends” the vast majority of the time.

Thus humanity does a lot of its learning from mistakes. Probably a faster way.

That's 100% right. But the biggest problem in America are it's people who DON'T WANT to know.

He is also describing the journey of education, where the field of vision expands to degrees one never thought possible, or at least it should be that way.

‼️👀 It’s possible that the Common Man doesn’t have to know the minute details of an issue to know it’s 🐂💩‼️It is the realm of the self-described intellectuals to study things to death so the can maintain a meaningful and influential position in society. In the end, after much time and money (in their sinecure positions), they miraculously arrive at the same conclusion as the Common Man‼️

The greatest minds in science were aware of this and were mindful of its dangers long before it became thus known. Galileo and Newton; Einstein and every single quantum mechanics physicist ever. Heisenberg made a principle of it, that knowledge of the world is as much projection as it is description.

The paradox is when I'm looking for EVERY aspect of a phenomenon and I realise how little I was knowing and how much is still to be discovered, I feel stupid. While some ignorant know 1 percent about the subject and they are confident enough to claim the irrefutable truth🤷‍♂️

An issue with this line of thinking is, action with confidence is required at some point And that point is LONG before competence Success stories are replete with stories of ignorant fools acting, dusty books are filled with ideas from the most knowledgeable Food for thought

He's not wrong but the Dunning-Kruger effect can also be an example of the Dunning-Kruger effect when presented as knowledge of cognitive bias. Its one of many biases that have a deeper commonality; Identity-protective cognition. People often use the DK effect and other cognitive biases or logical fallacies in service of protecting their own identity "You are just too ignorant to know that you are wrong and I am right."
