Local news outlets reporting in Wisconsin say that Enbridge officials are working with emergency response teams to stabilize the site. Enbridge had been working to reroute the pipeline that serves Ontario and Quebec off of a local reservation. The Iron County Sheriff’s Office has declared a no-fly zone over the gas spill.

He was monitoring fish in a creek where Enbridge lacks necessary authorization to install its pipeline. He received four misdemeanor charges and was released later that day. The charges include disorderly conduct, trespassing, unlawful assembly, and resisting arrest. Canadian oil giant Enbridge has a secretive deal with Ashland County to reimburse the sheriff’s department to act as private security. Enbridge is paying police using the Wisconsin Counties Association, a lobbying group, as the pass through. The Association is not subject to state open records laws. The public won’t know how much Enbridge is paying law enforcement or how the money is being spent. Multiple groups are suing Canadian oil giant Enbridge for proceeding with Line 5 construction without required property interests at 49 water crossings. Plaintiffs include the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and multiple environmental organizations. On August 14 and 17, water protectors waded in a stream where Enbridge was trenching without necessary authorization. The group held a prayerful presence in the stream and stopped construction for multiple hours. I’m an Anishinaabe woman, and that’s part of my role…. I don’t like the feeling of having a target on my back.” Enbridge had similar deals in Minnesota during the 2020-2021 construction of its Line 3 pipeline. Minnesota law enforcement agencies received $8.3 million from Enbridge through a state-run escrow account. It led to biased policing. Indigenous leaders and allies say officers committed “egregious civil and constitutional rights violations,” including surveillance, harassment, ‘pain compliance’ torture, use of rubber bullets and pepper balls, denying medical care, strip searches, and more. Hoffman Estates, Illinois: A semi-truck slammed into a crashed vehicle Monday morning. "ISP says the crash happened just before 2 a.m. on I-90 westbound at milepost 61 when a semi-truck hit a stationary vehicle that had been involved in a previous crash, for which an ambulance was at the scene. The semi-truck rolled over onto its side, pushing the stationary vehicle into an EMS worker, according to ISP. The EMS worker and the driver of the semi-truck were taken to area hospitals with injuries."
