Tariff-free trade is how we make Canada and the United States richer and more prosperous. It's how we create high-paying jobs on both sides of the border. It will require both sides to make concessions, but it will be better for everyone. Are you with Pierre on this? 👍

Ontario Premier Doug Ford responded to President Trump criticizing Canada over the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge on Truth Social, saying the project will create jobs on both sides of the border and that Trump is straining U.S.-Canada relations with tariffs. "We didn't start this trade war," Ford told CBS News' Ed O'Keefe. "President Trump decided to go after his close ally and friend."

On CBS News, I made the case that President Trump’s threats against the Gordie Howe International Bridge will only hurt American businesses and workers. Finishing and opening this vital trade link will grow our economies on both sides of the border.

Francis Maxwell on Canada-US trade war: "While the American people are already forced to pay more for gas and groceries as a result of this war with Iran, they then have to wake up to news that the United States has imposed a new 50% tariff on roughly $20 billion of Canadian imports after negotiations collapsed."

Bolton: NATO is a defensive alliance. It is not a gang we round up whenever we decide to go to war. The allies should have done better, but they were not consulted. It has been a bad performance on both sides of the alliance in this crisis.

Sask. Premier Scott Moe says Canada's priority should be securing a renewed trade agreement rather than escalating the trade war. "Tariffs increase costs to do business on both sides of that border... and ultimately weakens North American industry."

Michael Popok: The petulant child that is Donald Trump has met his match with Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada and the Ontario Premier Doug Ford. On both sides of the border, more than 70% of people in Canada and America are united — the Trump administration is a failed administration, one that is circling the drain of history.

America’s plans to impose tariffs on Canada will hurt families on both sides of the border. It will make costs go up at a time when people are already struggling. It doesn’t make sense, but if the Americans go down this road we will respond.

The Bunagana border has reopened, and the people of Bunagana are overjoyed. As you know, many families have relatives on both sides of the border, and the closure had made it difficult for them to reunite. This reopening brings great relief and renewed hope to the community.

Tariffs on Canada are only making life more expensive for American families. I’ll never back down from fighting for a fair trade deal that helps workers and families on both sides of the border.

CBS: Do you believe the tariffs that are now in place and the escalating trade war with Canada is a political risk for you in this campaign? HUSTED: Ah, I'm hopeful it's gonna get settled soon (That's a yes!)

It was a pleasure joining Fox News this morning on Fox and Friends to speak directly to Americans. A tariff war started by the U.S. will only hurt workers and raise costs for hard-working families on both sides of the border.

I have a lot of respect for Secretary Marco Rubio and he’s right: Canada is a great friend. He forgot to mention though that an unnecessary tariff war will hurt workers on both sides of the border. Canada has what the U.S. needs: high-grade nickel and critical minerals, energy and electricity, uranium, potash. If President Trump follows through with these tariffs, we can — and should — use every tool in our toolkit.
