The executive branch, regardless of which party controls the White House, does not have the unilateral power to send our brave men and women in uniform to fight and potentially sacrifice their lives with no Congressional authorization. Invading another country is an act of war.

I went to the 9/11 Memorial today to remember the brave women and men who have served our country in uniform and risked everything to preserve the freedom this country stands for. I thank all of our veterans and service members for their sacrifice.

My loyalty is to the Constitution, not any party. Article I gives Congress the power to declare war and control the purse. The executive cannot use military force or seize/spend Venezuelan assets without congressional approval. If our country wants war, Congress must vote.
