The fact this game is a switch 1 title blows my mind The visuals, art direction, and atmosphere are insane Add the music on top of everything & I get why this series is so beloved Metroid Prime Remastered is a masterpiece

They still fucked up some shit on the remaster. That was nice visuals. Overall still loved it though. Number 9 is the big one for me. Sad to of seen it gone.

I get it. Most of these seem like a stylistic choice and whether or not you like it more or less is definitely going to be divisive. 9 in particular would’ve been cool to keep, it would’ve looked crazy cool with the visual upgrade

Yeah as stated alot of them are good. its just a few that we lost that does suck. Especially with the upgraded hardware. cause the original was on GC.

Even the original on Game Cube (later released as a trilogy on the Wii... same thing) still holds up today graphically and a good amount of quality gameplay.

Looking back I'm glad all they did for the Switch version was a visual remake plus a few extra control options but everything else was kept the same and avoided the discourse most modern remakes get.

Could be wrong but I heard Retro wanted to add stuff to it but Nintendo told them to keep it exactly like the original

They wanted to upgrade some of the cutscenes, admittedly the animation can be a bit stiff but nothing to warrant an overhaul, don't fix what ain't broke.

@Terrier_Retro your praise for Prime is welcome, but referring to it as a Switch 1 title makes it sound newer than it is that it is originally a GameCube game is part of what makes it so damn impressive

@Terrier_Retro I agree and I don’t mean to undermine the incredible achievement that it was originally a GameCube game. I remember hearing about it in my teens when it first released and my friend raving about it. I called prime remastered a switch game because that’s what it is. That’s all

@Terrier_Retro oh, I got that but it primarily GCU first and OG fans don't want to see the hardware denied its due nonetheless, this may be a semantic argument, so just glad you're enjoying the game. hopefully they remaster Primes 2 & 3 soon enough

Nothing will ever beat playing this game in 2002. Unfortunately, it hasn’t aged as well Wind Waker or RE4, but I still love it with all my heart.

All of this considering this remaster was really really difficult for them to create. They worked through the pandemic and had to deal with original assets being in various places. It's really cool that it came out virtually perfect. I wish they had got in the extra cutscenes.

Good point. They totally would’ve had to make this through Covid times. Idk if true but I heard Nintendo declined the extra cutscenes

I couldn't remember on that story. I couldn't remember whether Retro or Nintendo decided against it. I just remember reading that it could have been included, but it was decided to keep it faithful to the original. The original was gorgeous but the Switch version is outstanding.

Yeah not sure exactly the story either haha. But regardless I guess you can’t go wrong with keeping faithful. And yeah I’ve seen video of the original and the art direction still holds up well

The most impressive about Metroid prime 1 it’s that is a gamecube game! Switch 1 just made it sharper and HD but the main base of the game it’s on the gamecube development. A lot of gamecube games are still good looking today. I’m waiting for the Wii trilogy decomp for pc 😆

They didn’t actually upscale the textures. They build the models, environments, new foliage, and textures from scratch. So more work was done to the remaster than simply taking the base game. But they built it on the underlying code of the OG. It’s a remake and a remaster in one

The only thing that kills me about it is the beam lighting effects are not as good as the GameCube version. I was always mesmerized by a beam shot lighting up the space around it.

Im really happy they just upgraded graphics. The only major change to how the game plays is you can use the joy cons motion controls to aim the arm cannon instead of the slower controls of a gamecube controller.

It's basically fine visually. The only issue is the Mackenzie Character and the Hand Holding that takes away the players ability to critically think for themselves in solving the puzzles that Metroid is known for.

Proof that the shiny visuals of the modern generation is really all they have. This is still in my top 3 games ever and is from 2002...

The original on GameCube still holds up and it's one of my favorites, so I was really worried they'd mess something up for Remastered, but they knocked it out of the park. It's a fantastic rendition of a fantastic game.

It was the best looking game on the Gamecube and then again on the Switch. 😁

One of the absolutely tiny number of remasters that I would be happy telling someone to play over the original. They tweaked exactly what needed tweaking without fucking up any of the core elements. Truly brilliant.
