SPACEX BREAKS GROUND ON NEW STARSHIP SITE AT CAPE CANAVERAL SpaceX just got the green light to develop Launch Complex 37 for Starship operations at Cape Canaveral. Construction is already underway. With three launch pads now in Florida, Starship is gearing up to support both national security missions and NASA’s Artemis program. The expansion pushes Cape Canaveral closer to becoming the world’s first true spaceport with airport-style operations. Why are many in the space community calling SpaceX Starship Flight 11 the Flight of many “Lasts”? That’s because it is true and represents a major transition from the more Wild Wild West of prototype development to a more operational, maturing space launch and spacecraft system. After Flight 11, much of the original orbital launch site systems, from the launch mount, to the water deluge & supporting systems are about to be replaced by a brand-new & much more reliable, survivable & rapidly reusable system. These changes will even make the iconic imagery we are familiar with just historical memories. Launch, Land, & Re-Launch! This SpaceX Falcon 9 booster is currently going through refurbishment activities at Vandenberg Space Force Base, CA. The SPHEREx and PUNCH missions will be the third flight for this booster, having previously flown on NROL-126 and Transporter-12. Refurbishment activities are expected to take place over the next few weeks. Once complete, SpaceX will transport the booster to Space Launch Complex 4 for integration with the second stage and SPHEREx/PUNCH Encapsulated Assembly in preparation for launch.
