As a firefighter my dad would say these were the lucky fires, bc theres little to no wind You can run about 6 mph. A grass fire will travel with the wind. Now imagine running from the line and its overcoming you at 20 mph. He was adamant that grass fires were the most dangerous

Pretty typical brush truck operation. Generally attack from the black but you are moving all the time until the perimeter is secured, so whatever works.

When I was a volunteer firefighter in Southern Alberta, I had 2 jobs. One was to manually pull the broken siren switch in and out to make it wail. The switch had a penny glued to it as the plastic had cracked off. The other was to sit in a seat on the back corner of the truck with a hose as we drove the grass fire line. The front corners of the truck had water booms. The helmet also saved me from getting my face rearranged in a Halloween bar fight at Emeraldas in Lethbridge.
