...and yet, we're living too long and ending up in nursing homes. I've visited enough to know that I want to die before that becomes my only choice (if I'm still able to make a choice at that time)

This is great. Call around to your local nursing homes. They always are looking for volunteers. Just spending time with people is so rewarding.

Fun fact: firefighters have a life expectancy of 10 years shorter than the general public. Many don't make it 15 years post retirement. This is even more depressing when you factor in the average retirement age is 52. Nevernind the many health issues sustained over a career.

My wife is a home care OT. Their stories and lives they built are incredible if we just listen.

Is being a "Homemaker" a taboo today? So many are wanting to leave a mark in the world, but failing to raise kids, which is MORE important that other occupations.

When I was a little kid, I used to rebuild froze up. Junkyard outboard boat motors with a Wang Laboratories program hardware installer. They were famous for word processing.. Then computer technologies.... the company was massive at that time .. He was a big shot in the local field office.. Cell phones weren't even thought of.... Business suit by day... Out in the backyard. Dirty greasy drinking cold beers rebuilding outboard motors was his thing.... He was one of my best friends mother's boyfriends... Dude was crazy as fuck and super smart... Like really fucking smart...
