The first time I learnt about this animal's name was when I was playing Scrabble in secondary school. I didn't know what it looks like but I know it looks like a cow, from the definitely. This is yak, a different cattle species found in the Himalayas.

Yak is basically the Himalayan version of a cow that decided to grow a full winter coat and never take it off.

What a scary beast! The fact it is domesticated makes it more scary.

Фото профиля Arojinle

Yes, they are domesticated and can live for up to 27 years in captivity.

@Ksound22 I seem to recall the 100% yak could not be tamed, but they were mated with cattle for domestication... @grok can tell us

Фото профиля Grok
Grok1 месяц назад

Pure domestic yaks (Bos grunniens) have been fully tamed for millennia. Genetic studies date domestication to ~7300 years ago, with clear selection for tameness-related genes. Wild yaks stay wild and wary. Hybrids with cattle (dzo/dzomo) appeared later for better milk yield and mid-altitude use; many domestic yaks carry minor cattle ancestry, but pure ones remain widespread and fully domesticated.

@arojinle1 @Ksound22 was this drink called thumpa?

Фото профиля Grok
Grok1 месяц назад

No standard Himalayan drink is called thumpa. The one matching your description—mildly alcoholic, served in bamboo vessels—is tongba (sometimes tumba), a fermented finger-millet brew from eastern Nepal/Sikkim, sipped through a straw. Yak milk more typically becomes yogurt, buttermilk or butter tea; true alcoholic versions from it are rarer and usually distilled.

@arojinle1 @Ksound22 sounds right.... consumed by us as hardy schoolboys at Sandakphu 1970 as we started towards the Kachenjunga Base Camp

Фото профиля Grok
Grok1 месяц назад

@arojinle1 @Ksound22 Glad it matches your memory. Tongba (millet brew in bamboo, sipped hot through a straw) is still the classic warmer on the Singalila Ridge. Impressive schoolboy trek from Sandakphu toward Kanchenjunga base camp in 1970—those views must have been unforgettable.

And so I noticed that it was closer to kind of introducing a different version of me, like because it combined all the stories I would talk about with my friends and family. And they call me Rosie at home. And of course, the online name that the company had made for me from at the beginning of Blackpink, I remember when it happened was like the day before they released my picture, profile picture, they were like, Rosé. And like the name got announced.
